Power steering pump body cracked.

Have you ever heard of the power steering pump's
body cracking? My girlfriend is 5 hours away and a
repair shop is telling her this. Should I be
sceptical?

When it come to car mechanics, I don't trust any of them. If it's not gushing out power steering fluid, I would say it's okay. If they go ahead with the repair, require them to send the old part back so "My mechanic can examine it". Write a check if possible to stop payment if necessary. Never heard that one before.
