1954 corvette inline 6 cylilnder starter drags when worm What is the fix for this

Rebuilt starter in 1954 chevy corvette with original inlilne 6.  When engine is
warm stater willl drag.  Chevy inline 6 for this is higher compression than
standard inline 6.  Is this the wrong starter for t his and if so how do you tell.
