Ls400 starts ok then it cuts out within seconds

I have a 1996 Ls 400 it starts ok but it cuts out within seconds also when the gear
selector doesn't lock when the key is removed from the ignition.

two problems, you have a worn ignition switch...replace it...you have a locking pin not actuating...have to get in to disassemble and test it--- check fuses now, may save you a bit of inconvenience as you'll have until it starts doin' it again....as long as this takes~

I have changed the ignition switch today but I still have the same problem. Any ideas??

X2 on the fuses. That is the first thing to do. let us know and we can go from there. And with your new ignition switch if you have 20 keys a flashlight and a lucky charm on your key ring, lighten it up, the weight and swinging of them is not good. Also go get your OBD codes scanned at a parts house, they will do it free, write down the codes, they will begin with a "P", because it's a power train issue, followed by four numbers, for example P1234 and bring them back here, one of us will be happy to decipher the code and discuss what to do.

I have checked all of the fuses but I'm not sure what breakers are or where they are???.
