Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Can I use automatic transmission fluid in
a manual transmission.

Normally a grease would go in but you could call the parts store, they could look it up for you.

Use what it calls for. Many of the standard transmissions use an atf type fluid. The manual calls for Mercon, but that has been superseded by Mercon V.

ACTION Beginning immediately all manual transmission applications requiring MERCON(R) can now be serviced using MERCON(R) V or MERCON(R) Automatic Transmission Fluid or dual usage fluids labeled MERCON(R) / MERCON(R) V. After July 1, 2007, MERCON(R) Automatic Transmission Fluid will no longer be manufactured, therefore, availability of this fluid will continue until remaining inventory has been depleted. freerider6_9 is offline

Automatic fluid is thinner, I would not use it, refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual
