Lift the bonnet/hood and look at the inside of the grille where the badge is located. If I remember rightly it's an 8mm nut on the back.

in order to remove and replace the emblem on the 89 mercedes benz 560sel is either easy or hard the easy is to remove the entire chrome and grill assembly 1st remove the latch assembly there are 2 10 mm bolts then remove all 8mm bolts with washers there are 4 or 5 on each side then you have to remove the one's on top remove the 2 plastic protectors on the inside top top that accesses the bolts then there are still 2 you cannot see you have to feel are with a long 8 mm socket these are in the 2 large holes pointing out ounce you get all out then you have to remove the grill aaembly these are a pain to get out there are philip head but remember where these screws go as they are setup in a specific pattern or the grill will be crooked once you get them out you can wiggle it around and get it out ounce out then there is a 8mm nut holding the emblem in remove it and push it out remember there is a guide pin to make sure the emblem is straight it takes about 1 hour total to do this and installation is reverse instructions
