Broken key in ignition

Someone tried to steal my 1996 ford explorer and
broke a key in my ignition what can I do to fix the
problem with out having to pay a lot of money for a
mechanic

Find a cheaper mechanic. Or get some small needle nose to see if you can extract the broken key out of the cylinder.
