Why does the four wheel drive light flash

Asked by sable Feb 01, 2007 at 03:14 PM about the 1996 Ford Explorer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The four wheel drive light flashes sometimes both when in 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive. Then it goes out of 4-wheel drive. Mechanices have installed a new motor and checked out the sensors - they are ok.  What can be the problem?
Thank you.

Only reason i have ever heard for the 4-wheel drive light to blink is a malfunction with the 4WD system.
