Before chasing a parasite try FULLY charging ANY battery...or jump-starting the car and driving a half hour at speed to charge battery. If car won't start NEXT day try a second battery, as some NEW batteries don't hold charges. If SECOND battery fails same way look for a parasitic draw. I just replaced battery in G37x with supposedly "new" one that wouldn't charge, and was finally going to start looking for parasites, but decided to try a second new battery. Annoying, but better than chasing non-existent parasites!

Having similar issues for a while. Replaced starter. Alternator seems fine, battery checks out (it seems) - but still random and intermittent non-starts. Figured it was the starter failing, but it was not. Installed new one, car did fine for a couple weeks, maybe 50 starts, now battery/start failing again. The battery is only a year old but seems to not hold it's charge? I put the jump box on it and quick charge jumps it, and in limited testing when let it charge in the evenings the next morning seems to do well. But when the box is connected it just seems random. Will show fully charged, then I'll press charge again and it will drop to 75%, etc. Thinking it's just not holding charge? It's been tested multiple times and checks out OK. Strange. Seems to charge during my commute to work (45mins) - but a couple quick starts with short drives (like weekends) it begins to fail. Or like yesterday, after drive home, sat all night, did not start this morning. Will try a new battery, hope it works, before chasing draws. 2011 Infiniti M37

the issue with this is the alternator does not provide 14v when running. It only comes on when it senses a power draw. This is to save drag on the engine by not having the alternator produce power all the time and thus save on fuel Almost all G37's seem to have a draw on the battery from sitting with nothing on. If you can find out what's causing the draw. You will solve this problem. Or find a way to make the alternator provide power full time, and it will recharge the battery while driving.

I have concluded that it has something to do with the "Variable Voltage Control System". Infinity will confirm my conclusion for $150.00 I replaced the battery in my Infiniti G37 and all seemed fine. The battery does not charge on trips less than 8 miles. My wife drives 4 miles to work and 4 miles back home and the next day battery will not start car. When I drive it to work (19 miles one way) we never have charging issues. We took it on a week long vacation without problems. The battery does not charge on trips less than 8 miles. I replaced the alternator for no reason apparently based on the charging situation did not change. I'm hoping the VVCS computer can be re-set to have battery charge on short trips.

2011 G37 staring from 2014 to 2021 changed, replaced and/or had battery charge, towed, loss of time, etc. etc - finally the dealer said the closed electrical ignition box approx 2" x 6" x 4" is causing the drain, and now refused to honor free replacement, paid approx $1600.00 and bought new battery from Costco - adding injury to insult.

I finally found a fix for this situation. There are three wires going to the alternator. Two are for producing power and the other one is VVCS or "Variable Voltage Control System". If you cut that wire the alternator will now produce 14 all the time since it has no signal from the alternator. Just like the older cars of yesterday. I haven't had a battery or starting issues since.. to verify I used a volt meter with the wire cut and then connected. Voltage changed each time.

Would love to chat in person about this if you are willing…not mechanical at all. Same problem. Brand new battery…2009 G37 convertible…driven 3x on brand new battery… dead in the driveway. 541-410-7897. Russ

Sure thing. Let me get a couple of pics of the wiring to post so you can see what I mean.

Here is a pic of the alternator connector. Note #4 is the wire bringing the signal to the VVCS. This is the one to cut (white)

I have a 2011 Infiniti G37 with this issue, and no offense intended, but I'm really leery of cutting wires, if I could even find the right one to cut to begin with. Can anyone confirm success with this?

Check out this thread... there's a TSB about this.. https://infinitig37.com/TSB/1ST34.pdf

That TSB references the 2008-9 coupe. Any chance the same problem could happen with the 2013 G37 Journey? Also what is the problematic ECM p/n? I'm only seeing parts numbers for the battery and vent control valve. Thanks!

Have a 2011 Infiniti G37 sitting at the dealership right now with this same issue. Have owned it 6-7 months and car has stopped on us twice so far. There is definitely a drain on the battery/ a malfunction in design but the dealership says they can't find anything wrong with it. From this forum, it is obvious others have this issue so they have to be aware of the problem. I see someone above took it into their own hands to fix clipping a wire, but has anyone had the dealership find the solution and permanently fix it for this year/model? (Some of the TSBs are for other years).
