Increasing load on a 2011 Toyota Tacoma in order to carry a larger truck camper on back

Asked by GuruWMPQF May 29, 2018 at 11:03 AM about the 2011 Toyota Tacoma

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am being told that my 2011 Tacoma can only carry a small pop up camper on
back due to its weight. Is it possible to do something to the truck to increase
this load?

I'm not sure what the capacity is for that truck, but look it up and figure it out, don't depend on someone telling you what to do. It should be listed in the owner's manual. Also, there is a Tacoma forum that talks about hauling capacities and how to raise yours. I've added air bags to my rear suspension and a supplemental radiator for my transmission fluid to my 2004 tacoma V6 to help out when towing my trailer when it's fully loaded.

Besides the above good ideas, you can increase of the leaf springs with an additional heavy -er rated leaf springs, both after market or local spring shops are options. Before you start throwing parts and $$ at the truck, find out what camper(s) you would like. Then taking the height, weight, and suitability in mind you will then have an idea how far you have to modify your truck.
