Ford anti theft

Asked by Snowymean Dec 13, 2018 at 06:40 AM about the 1997 Ford Explorer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1997 Ford Explorer that ran but was
left untouched for about 5 years. Went too
start it but the theft light stays on and does
not crank at all. I used the original key it
came with. How can I fix this or what is the
main problem.

Did you check the battery? If it sat untouched for five years, I doubt the battery has the amperage or voltage to start the vehicle.

Also replace the battery cable ends... Even if they look great!!! My explorer failed to start. It had a good starter, good battery, good keys, etc.... the cable ends LOOKED GREAT too,,, clean and sound, no corrosion. I replaced the cable ends at the battery,,, SHE STARTED RIGHT UP!!!!!!!
