First thing that comes to my mind is, do you live in a state where you can do modifications to your car and still pass smog checks?

I live in SoCal and it's not the place to be if you want to do performance upgrades. You'll most likely fail the initial visual inspection at the smog check. You need a pre '77 vehicle if you want to build a performance car and not worry about smog checks

When considering performance upgrades for your 1994 Honda Civic Coupe, it's essential to assess your engine's current condition and capabilities. The upgrades you've mentioned—air intake, fuel system, exhaust, and ignition—can enhance performance without necessarily requiring a new engine block or major chassis and suspension modifications. However, keep in mind that significant upgrades might push the engine to its limits. It's advisable to consult with a mechanic or a knowledgeable automotive specialist. They can evaluate your engine's condition and advise on whether it can handle the proposed upgrades without risking damage. In many cases, modest upgrades like the ones you've mentioned can be accommodated by the existing engine, enhancing performance without the need for a complete overhaul. Nonetheless, professional guidance will ensure that the modifications align with your engine's capabilities and prevent potential issues.
