i have holes in my valve covers the passenger side hole has a pcv valve that goes to a hose that hangs loosly open ended the driver side goes to a hose that connects to the base of the carburetor in the from and has an oil filler cap on it I just want to know where these hoses actually go

The PCV hose ran to a manifold vacuum source, I'm a little fuzzy on your description of the other hose, but it sounds like the crankcase breather, it would have plugged into the air cleaner assembly through a grommet with some filter material behind it. These would be the crankcase breather & PCV system; the breather allows filtered air into the top of the engine while blowby gasses are sucked out of the other side of the engine through the PCV valve.

The PCV valve plugs directly into the oil filler cap. The hose from the base of the carburetor goes to the PCV valve. On the other side the hose from that valve cover goes to the air cleaner. There's a crankcase ventilation filter on the inside of the air cleaner that the hose from the valve cover connects to. HTH. -Jim
