I have a 1987 GMC Sierra pickup (2wd) w/ 5.0 V-8 motor / auto trans. The transmission is slipping badly & needs to be replaced. How do I identify the transmission my truck is equipped with?

I have the same truck..my son in law says it takes a 700r4 transmission
