The 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport gets a new V6 engine, which delivers more power than its predecessor while posting better fuel economy numbers. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine delivers 285 hp, a significant improvement when compared to the previous V6's 202 hp, and boosts torque by 10 percent to 260 lb-ft. The EPA estimates fuel economy numbers of 17/21 mpg for the new V6, which improves on the previous powerplant but still ranks at the low end of the scale for similar vehicles of its size. The V6 links to a 6-speed manual transmission, which comes standard, or a new optional 5-speed automatic transmission, which replaces the previous 4-speed unit. The Sport also comes equipped with the shift-on-the-fly Command-Trac 4WD system, which splits torque 50/50 between front and rear axles. Antilock brakes, traction control, stability control and Hill Start Assist all come standard on the Wrangler Sport. Safety features include dual advanced front airbags.

Inside, the 2-door, 4-passenger Sport receives a few updates for 2012, including a redesigned steering wheel and armrests, as well as a locking glove box. A sculpted dash and side door panels in earth tones give the interior a more refined look. Standard features for the Sport include black cloth upholstery, a height-adjustable driver's seat, a rear Fold-and-Tumble seat, and a tilt steering column. In addition, the Sport gets Jeep's Uconnect media system, which includes a 6-speaker audio system with steering-wheel-mounted audio controls. The full-metal removable doors include roll-up windows.
