The 2008 Mazda MAZDA6 i Sport sits on the lower-end of the lineup, offered only as a sedan. Under the hood is a 156-hp, 2.3-liter DOHC I4 engine and choice of 5-speed manual or automatic. Fuel economy averages 21/28 and torque numbers hover around 154 ft-lbs at 4000 RPM. The powertrain features variable valve timing. The mid-sized front-wheel drive sedan gets new 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires and a tire pressure monitor. Its handling earns praise thanks to the double wishbone front and multilink rear suspension.
Though front passengers get 42.3 inches of legroom, backseat passengers are a bit cramped with only 36.5 inches. Rear seats do split-fold for interior openings into the trunk. Trunk size in the sedan is 15.2 cubic feet, compared to 22 cubic feet in the hatchback. With the seats down, hatchback storage reaches 59 cubic feet. An optional cargo tray and organizer can help streamline storage space. Higher-end features not expected in a base trim include a full power setup, remote entry, and wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls. The CD player can play back MP3s. Intermittent front wipers, six cupholders, a tachometer, a temperature readout, a security system, and two front power outlets round out the entire package.
The 2008 MAZDA6 i Sport performs well in crash tests, receiving four and five stars (side impact and frontal impact, respectively). Dual-stage dual front-side airbags feature passenger deactivation. Side curtain airbags cover both rows. 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes come with electronic brakeforce distribution. Lighting the road are automatic headlights with halogen lamps. Adding options gets you closer to the Value Edition. A 6-CD changer and satellite radio, a sunroof, a compass, a garage remote, and auto-dimming rearview mirrors all cost extra. If you're trying to achieve something a bit flashier, you can also add a rear spoiler, additional chrome accents, and a sport grille.

Already standard are power windows, locks, and mirrors, wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls, a 6-speaker sound system, a tachometer, a temperature readout, tilt and telescopic steering, and front intermittent wipers. The CD player is MP3-compatible.
The 2008 MAZDA6 i Sport Value Edition comes in both sedan and hatchback form, with the sedan offering a cargo capacity range from 22 to 59 cubic feet. The sedan's trunk holds 15.2 cubic feet. Both have the option to add a cargo tray, net, and organizer. Rear seats split-fold 60/40 in both versions. There are cupholders for both rows. Powering this front-wheel drive mid-sized car is a 16-valve, 2.3-liter DOHC I4 with variable valve timing. Paired with either a 5-speed manual or automatic, it puts out 156-hp and 154 ft-lbs of torque, with a fuel economy around 21/28 mpg.

Matched with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic, the powertrain achieves 156-hp and 154 ft-lbs of torque at 4000 RPM. It rides on a double wishbone front and multilink rear suspension, and this year gets new 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires. A tire monitor is included.

Upgrades from the Sport trim including a 6-CD changer with MP3 playback, a garage remote, an 8-way power driver's seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a security system. Both sedan and hatch seat four in two rows, with front buckets and a 60/40 split-folding rear bench. Front passengers get 42 inches of legroom, while backseat riders get only 36.5 inches. Overall, the 2008 MAZDA6 i Sport Touring earns top marks (four and five stars) in crash tests. Traction control is standard, but stability control is not offered. 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes feature electronic brakeforce distribution. The dual-stage dual front-side airbags have crash sensors and passenger deactivation. Side curtain airbags for both rows are standard. A 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic are the only transmission choices for the front-wheel drive MAZDA6. Both the sedan and hatch seat four or five in two rows, with a split-folding rear seat. Legroom is cramped in the back, at 36 inches. People up front get a nice 41 inches. The sedan trunk is a spacious 15.2 cubic feet. The hatch holds anywhere from 22 to 59 cubic feet. It can be accessed through the 60/40 split-folding seats. A cargo tray and organizer are optional.
The 2008 Mazda MAZDA6 s Value Edition focuses on safety. Standard traction control, 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, a rear stabilizer bar, new 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires, and dual front-side and side head airbags for both rows earn four and five stars in crash tests and rollover ratings. A tire monitor, automatic headlights, and halogen lamps are all standard, but an auto-dimming rearview mirror is purely optional.
Power windows, locks, and mirrors are just the tip of the equipment iceberg. Wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls, a 6-speaker 6-CD changer with MP3 capability, 8-way power driver's seat, remote entry, and leather steering wheel trim are all standard. On a more practical side you'll find a tachometer, intermittent front and rear wipers, tilt and telescopic steering, a security system, two 12V front power outlets and six cupholders, Optional additions are much like those in the i Value Edition, such as a sunroof, satellite radio, and a compass. For a sportier look, you can add more exterior chrome and a rear lip spoiler.

The main distinguishing characteristic between the Touring and Sports Touring is a standard rear deck spoiler (a rear lip spoiler is still optional). It also has a rear window wiper. Otherwise, the front-wheel drive sedan or hatch shares many of the same features.
These include a full power setup, remote entry, an 8-way power driver's seat, a 6-CD changer with MP3 playback, a 7-speaker Bose sound system, and wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls. Heated seats and mirrors, in addition to leather upholstery and trim, add a touch of luxury. Other convenience features are intermittent front wipers, tilt and telescopic steering, six cupholders, a tachometer, a security system, and a temperature readout. Rear seats split-fold 60/40 onto a 15.2 cubic foot trunk in the sedan and a 22 cubic foot trunk in the hatch (expandable to 59 cubic feet). Tiedowns and a cover are standard in the hatchback version of the 2008 MAZDA6 i Touring, but a net and organizer cost more. Satellite radio, remote start, a compass, and a sunroof are also optional.
Featuring 4-wheel-disc and ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, traction control, and dual front-side and side curtain airbags with passenger deactivation, the sports sedan and hatch earn five stars in frontal impact tests and four in side impacts. 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires grip the road, and a standard tire monitor keeps an eye on pressure. Automatic headlights shine halogen lamps. An auto-dimming rearview mirror is available. Exterior chrome trim can also be added to achieve a more flashier appearance.

A 156-hp, 2.4-liter DOHC I4 engine and 5-speed shiftable automatic put out 154 ft-lbs of torque at 4000 RPM and achieve 21/28 mpg. Front legroom is an ample 42 inches, while rear legroom suffers at 36.5 inches. Both sedan and hatch features 60/40 split-folding rear seats, with anywhere from a 15.2 cubic foot trunk (sedan) to 22 cubic feet (hatch). With the seats down in the hatch, capacity expands to 59 cubic feet. Already standard features include a full power setup, heated front seats, leather upholstery, an 8-way power driver's seat, remote entry, a 7-speaker Bose system, a 6-CD changer with MP3 compatibility, wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls, and leather trim. The top-end trim for this sports sedan and hatchback, the 2008 Mazda MAZDA6 i Grand Touring differs from the Sport Grand Touring only in that it comes standard with a rear window wiper. It also features a cargo cover and tiedowns, which are optional on the Sport Grand Touring. A cargo net and tray still cost extra. The front-wheel drive car is powered by 2.3-liter, 16-valve DOHC I4 engine and 5-speed shiftable automatic which put out 156-hp and 154 ft-lbs of torque. It rides on a double wishbone front and multilink rear suspension.
The rear bench split-folds 60/40 and comes with a folding armrest and 35 inches of legroom (compared to 42 up front). The sedan's trunk holds 15.2 cubic feet, while the hatch holds between 22 and 59 cubic feet. The 2008 MAZDA6 i Grand Touring offers up leather upholstery and trim, heated front seats, and a full complement of power features, which include windows, locks, and heated mirrors, a sunroof, remote entry, and wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls. A 7-speaker Bose system features a 6-CD changer with MP3 playback. Satellite radio is optional. Front intermittent wipers, a temperature gauge, a tachometer, two 12V power outlets, and tilt and telescopic steering, are also standard. The Grand Touring has the option of adding a navigation system. Remote start and chrome trim are also available.
Sporting a rear spoiler and 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires on the outside, the 2008 MAZDA6 i Grand Touring packs in a fair amount of safety equipment. The 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes come with electronic brakeforce distribution. Traction control helps with road grip. Dual front-side airbags have passenger deactivation, and there are side curtain airbags for both rows. The Grand Touring trims also feature xenon HID headlamps, foglights, automatic headlights, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

It improves upon the i Sport Touring by adding a more powerful 24-valve, 3.0-liter DOHC V6 engine with 212-hp and 197 ft-lbs of torque. Matched to a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual mode, the powertrain achieves 18/25 mpg. Both the sedan and hatchback share a double wishbone front and multilinke rear suspension and ride on new 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires.
Standard features in the front-wheel drive 2008 MAZDA6 s Sport Touring include an 8-way power driver's seat, power windows, locks, and mirrors, wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls, a garage remote, and remote entry. Remote start is optional. A 6-CD changer offers MP3 playback, and can be supplemented with satellite radio. Intermittent front wipers, leather steering wheel trim, tilt and telescopic steering, six cupholders, a tachometer, and a temperature gauge are also standard. The car seats four, with 60/40 split-folding rear seats and fold-down armrest. Trunk capacity ranges from 15.2 cubic feet in the sedan to nearly 59 cubic feet in the hatch (with the seats down). Cargo tiedowns, a net, and organizer are offered separately.
The 2008 MAZDA6 s Sport Touring performs well in crash tests, thanks to standard 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, dual-stage dual front-side and side curtain airbags for both rows (with crash sensors and front passenger deactivation), a rear stabilizer bar, and traction control. Also standard are a tire monitor, halogen lamps, and automatic headlights. An auto-dimming rearview mirror is optional. Other options include chrome trim, various rear spoilers, and a sunroof.

A rear window wiper is standard on the Touring.
The sporty exterior look is matched by a well-endowed interior. Full power accessories include remote entry, an 8-way power driver's seat, and wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls. Front seats are heated and all seats are covered in leather (so is the steering wheel). A Bose sound system features a 6-CD changer with MP3 playback. Tilt and telescopic steering, intermittent front wipers, a tachometer and temperature gauge, a security system, two front power outlets, and six cupholders complete the standard list. Sitting on the option list are a cargo net, remote start, a compass, a sunroof, and a free trial of satellite radio. Extra chrome trim is also available.
The 2008 MAZDA6 s Touring earns four and five stars in crash tests. It comes standard with traction control, but stability control is not offered. In both the hatchback and sedan version, the rear bench split-folds 60/40, and trunk size varies depending on the model. The sedan holds 15.2 cubic feet, while the hatch holds anywhere from 22 to 59 cubic feet. Tiedowns, a tray, and a cargo cover are all optional on the 2008 MAZDA6 s Sport Grand Touring. Both floor and overhead storage consoles are standard. In addition to the upgraded features, you also get power windows, locks, and heated mirrors, heated front seats, an 8-way power driver's seat, remote entry, and wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls. Leather upholstery and trim give the car an upscale feel. A 6-CD changer with MP3 playback can be heard through a Bose sound system. Other standard features include tilt and telescopic steering, intermittent front wipers (no rear window wiper on the Sport Grand Touring), two front power outlets, six cupholders, and a security system. Remote start is optional, along with satellite radio.

The 2008 Mazda MAZDA6 s Grand Touring serves as the most powerful and most luxurious trim in this sport sedan/hatchback lineup. Under the hood lies a 3.0-liter, 212-hp DOHC V6 engine. Paired with a 6-speed shiftable automatic, it delivers 187-hp at 5000 RPM and 17/25 mpg. Upgrading to the Grand Touring adds a standard rear window wiper and standard tiedowns and a cover in the cargo area. A cargo net, tray, and organizer are optional.
The front-wheel drive 2008 MAZDA6 s Grand Touring earns five stars in frontal impact and four in side impact crash tests. Traction control is standard, along with 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes and electronic brakeforce distribution.
