The Mercedes-Benz CLK320 two-door coupe received an exterior redesign for 2003. Upgrades included a slightly larger body, sleeker styling, and a wider, lower grille. In addition, the middle pillar between the front and rear windows disappeared, resulting in a cleaner, more contemporary side profile.
Power was provided by a 3.2-liter, overhead-cam V6 engine that produced 215 horsepower. The engine was linked to a five-speed automatic transmission with the Touch Shift feature, which enabled the driver to upshift and downshift manually by nudging the shift lever left or right.
Standard equipment for the 2003 CLK320 coupe included Mercedes' TeleAid emergency communication and assistance program, and an Electronic Stability Programming (ESP) anti-skid system, as well as anti-lock brakes and Brake Assist, which applied full braking in emergency situations.
Other standard features included leather seats, wood interior trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, two-zone climate control, cruise control, dual power-adjustable front seats, power windows, power heated mirrors, and a Bose premium audio system with a cassette player, as well as a full complement of airbags.
Drivers remained extremely positive about the CLK320, as they had almost since the day it was introduced. The car's styling, ride, handling, performance, and even its economy were all cited as positive points by drivers. However, some drivers noted that the back seat could be cramped.
