Toyota Camry History

Toyota's mid-size car is among the most popular vehicles in the world and has been the best-selling car in the United States for nine of the last ten years. Originally part of the Celica line, the Camry broke free to forge its own identity as a highly dependable family sedan.

The mid-size market is tight in the United States. Top competitors include the Honda Accord and Nissan Altima, while cars such as the Ford Fusion and Hyundai Sonata continue to fight for market share.

The Camry is a good winter-weather car, and has a very loyal market of buyers likely to continue to purchase the model. It is very reliable, with many drivers claiming upwards of 300,000 miles, and has a good history of safety innovation.

A hybrid version of the Camry, using Toyota's innovative Hybrid Synergy Drive, was introduced in 2007.
