2024 Genesis GV80 Reviews Summary

Genesis introduced the GV80 in 2021, and the crossover SUV is getting a minor refresh in 2025. Still, the 2024 GV80 remains a good choice unless you want to wait for the fancier styling, more high-tech interior, or new supercharged GV80 Coupe coming next year. Otherwise, today’s GV80 is pretty much the same as tomorrow’s GV80, and in some respects, it is the more elegant and traditional choice.

Verdict: Based on our evaluation of the 2024 Genesis GV80, seat comfort is not what it should be. Also, to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, you need a USB cable. This Genesis is thirsty, too. But otherwise, we have few complaints about this stylish, safe, and mostly rewarding midsize luxury SUV.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse Reviews Summary

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse has gone from being something of a wallflower to becoming one of the more stand-out choices among midsize SUVs with three rows of seating. That’s because Chevrolet’s design and engineering team did its homework when it came time to update this third generation of the Traverse, a model that has featured in the brand’s lineup since its introduction back for the 2009 model year.

The 2024 Chevy Traverse is taller, wider, and longer than the outgoing variant. It’s also much more memorable to look at; following current SUV trends, Chevrolet gave the Traverse a more rugged appearance that borrows from both the full-size Tahoe SUV and Sierra pickup truck. Styling is always subjective, but in this instance, we think it’s fair to say Chevy got things right.

Verdict: More important than any additional visual bravado is that the 2024 Traverse has been improved in countless other ways. It has more standard driver aids, such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. There is more space for passengers, particularly those seated in the third row. And the infotainment system gets a much larger touchscreen.

2024 Genesis GV80

9/10

2024 Chevrolet Traverse

8/10

The 2024 Genesis GV80 offered a choice between the 2.5T turbocharged four-cylinder and the 3.5T twin-turbocharged V6 models, with trim levels ranging from Standard to Prestige Signature. Prices varied from $57,700 to $81,750, plus a $1,350 destination charge. Our test vehicle, a GV80 3.5T in the top-tier Prestige Signature trim, featured an optional Matterhorn White Matte paint, bringing the MSRP to $84,600. The Prestige Signature trim boasted exclusive exterior colors and dark chrome trim, but its wheel design, obscured by black paint, detracted from its appeal. Inside, the Ultramarine Blue over Dune interior exuded luxury with diamond-stitched Nappa leather, a suede headliner, and metallic accents. Despite its opulence, the Prestige Signature's exterior didn't surpass the Prestige model's attractiveness.

In contrast, the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse was available in four trims: LS, LT, Z71, and RS, with the Z71 being a new addition for moderate off-roading. The Traverse's pricing was competitive, starting at $38,995 for the LS and reaching $55,595 for the RS. Our Z71 test vehicle, priced at $47,795, featured gloss black-painted 18-inch alloy wheels and Iridescent Pearl Tricoat paint. The interior, with Jet Black and "Torch Red" accents, offered optional synthetic leather seating for an additional $1,000. The Traverse's design catered to practicality and comfort, with a focus on functionality over luxury.

The 2024 Genesis GV80 2.5T featured a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, surpassing some rivals' V6 engines. Our 3.5T test vehicle had a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine delivering 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque, offering satisfying performance but lower fuel efficiency. The EPA estimated 20 mpg combined, but we observed 17.2 mpg. Both engines paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive, with five driving modes available. The GV80 3.5T excelled in driving dynamics, with swift acceleration and commendable grip from its P265/40R22 all-season tires. The adaptive damping suspension and larger front brakes enhanced its athleticism, though the steering was unremarkable.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse replaced its previous 310-hp 3.6-liter V6 with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 328 hp and 326 lb-ft of torque. This new engine offered more power and torque than the discontinued V6. All-wheel drive was optional, with the Z71 featuring a more advanced system. The Traverse's acceleration and passing power were satisfactory, with a pleasant exhaust note. The steering was adequate, though the vehicle's length was noticeable. The ride quality was excellent, even with all-terrain tires and extra ground clearance. The brakes were progressive, and the stop-and-start feature was seamless. EPA estimates ranged from 18 mpg city to 26 mpg highway, depending on the drivetrain.

Form and function

In 2024, the Genesis GV80 3.5T Advanced was the only model with a third-row seat, while the Prestige Signature seated four with power-adjustable second-row captain’s chairs. The GV80's interior featured various leather options, heated front seats, and a power hands-free liftgate. Our test vehicle included a panoramic glass roof, triple-zone climate control, and ventilated front seats with massage functions. However, seat comfort was lacking, with diamond-stitched surfaces feeling uncomfortable on long trips. Cargo space measured 34.9 cubic feet behind the second row, expanding to 84 cubic feet with seats folded.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse LS offered seating for eight, while the LT, Z71, and RS had seven seats with second-row captain’s chairs. The Smart Slide second-row seats improved access to the third row, suitable for average-size adults. The Traverse featured a power-folding third row and Autosense power liftgate. Cargo volume was 22.9 cubic feet behind the third row, expanding to 96 cubic feet with seats folded. The cabin had ample storage, including a hidden area under the center console and an underfloor storage bin in the cargo bay. Visibility was mostly positive, though the third row had limited views.

The 2024 Genesis GV80 featured a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument display on Prestige trims. The infotainment system included navigation, SiriusXM, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A Wi-Fi hotspot was available for the first time in 2024. The GV80 also had a digital key system and a Lexicon premium sound system, with a head-up display on higher trims. The user interface was intuitive, though the touchscreen's placement encouraged using the control dial.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse boasted a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 11-inch digital instrument display. The system ran on Google-based software, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The wireless charging pad in the center console was effective. Physical controls for volume and HVAC functions were retained, though the driving mode button was less accessible. The Traverse introduced Super Cruise, a hands-free driving aid, expanding its functionality to single-lane roads. The system disengaged at intersections, requiring driver attention.

The 2024 Genesis GV80 came with numerous advanced driving-assistance systems, including a Blind-Spot View Monitor, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and Highway Driving Assist. The Blind-Spot View Monitor displayed video feeds in the digital instrument panel, enhancing safety during lane changes. The GV80 received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS and a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA, though frontal-impact tests earned four stars for driver and passenger positions.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse had not yet undergone crash tests by the NHTSA or IIHS. However, it offered a comprehensive suite of driver aids, including automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot warning, and adaptive cruise control. The Traverse also featured a surround-view parking camera and rear pedestrian alert. These systems provided peace of mind during our test drive.
