2023 Lincoln Aviator Reviews Summary

There is a reason that Ford’s Lincoln luxury division emphasizes the ethos of “Quiet Flight” when discussing its products, and our 2023 Aviator Black Label Grand Touring proved itself the epitome of this concept. It quietly glides everywhere you go, swaddling you in comfort, luxury, and high-tech features. And Lincoln hasn’t altered this formula for the new model year. Aside from a new Jet Package (blacked-out trim) and a new Special Edition Luxe Package (black-painted roof), each newly available for Grand Touring models, there are no changes to the 2023 Aviator lineup.

2023 Genesis GV70 Reviews Summary

The definition of luxury has changed. No matter where you look in the various premium vehicle segments, there are entrants that you may not have seen decades ago. From performance SUVs to subcompact crossovers, there are new takes on upscale vehicles. But just as crucially is the entrance of new players. In 2015, the Genesis brand was officially spun off from Hyundai. And with the brand’s expansion into various segments, a compact like the 2023 Genesis GV70 was a must.

The GV70 was introduced for the 2022 model year and for 2023, an all-electric model joins the lineup. We evaluated the GV70 on the whole, but with a special focus on how effective the 2023 Genesis GV70 Electrified is as an EV and as a compact luxury crossover.

2023 Lincoln Aviator

8/10

2023 Genesis GV70

8/10

The 2023 Lincoln Aviator presented a sophisticated and luxurious appearance, with its modern Lincoln face being a standout feature in the automaker’s lineup. The Black Label Grand Touring model, although fully loaded, had wheels that seemed too plain for its price point, especially when paired with the common white paint. The Aviator’s exterior lighting sequence and soft-close doors added a touch of elegance, while the interior was a mix of high-end materials and intricate design elements. However, some chrome details and stitching appeared less premium, and the key fob felt cheap, making the Phone As A Key technology a more appealing option.

In contrast, the 2023 Genesis GV70 drew stylistic inspiration from the G70 sedan, with its split-bar headlights and chrome line suggesting a coupe-like SUV without sacrificing versatility. Inside, the GV70 boasted a luxurious cabin with top-notch materials and a design that balanced contemporary and classic aesthetics. The dashboard featured a full touchscreen with a rotary dial and button controls, offering a user-friendly experience. The GV70’s interior was well-crafted, with thoughtful touches like climate controls integrated into a curving bezel and a seamless touchscreen rising from the dash.

Performance

2023 Lincoln Aviator

7/10

2023 Genesis GV70

7/10

The 2023 Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring, a plug-in hybrid, delivered an impressive 494 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque, despite its added weight from the electric motor and battery. It offered 21 miles of electric range and averaged 23 mpg in hybrid mode. The Aviator featured multiple driving modes, including Pure EV and Preserve EV, to optimize efficiency. During testing, it achieved 163.4 mpg equivalent by relying heavily on electric power. The Aviator’s handling was commendable, with its adaptive suspension managing various road conditions smoothly. However, the driving experience was not particularly engaging, with heavy steering and inconsistent brake pedal behavior.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 offered two gas-powered engine options: a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 300 horsepower and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 with 375 horsepower. Both engines provided ample power, with the V6 appealing to performance enthusiasts. The GV70’s handling was a blend of comfort and agility, making it suitable for both spirited driving and everyday use. The Electrified GV70 featured dual electric motors producing 429 horsepower, with a Boost mode increasing output to 483 horsepower. It offered a range of 236 miles and could fast charge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes. The GV70’s handling leaned towards comfort, with a smooth and confident driving experience.

Form and function

7/10

2023 Genesis GV70

6/10

The 2023 Lincoln Aviator prioritized comfort with features like a four-zone climate control system, heated and ventilated seats, and massaging front seats. The second-row captain’s chairs were spacious, but the third-row seating was cramped and difficult to access. With the third row in use, cargo space was limited to 18.3 cubic feet, expanding to 41.8 cubic feet with the seats folded, and a maximum of 77.7 cubic feet.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 offered 56.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded and 28.9 cubic feet with them in use, which was above average for its class. The GV70 featured a hands-free power liftgate and practical storage solutions in the cabin. Front-seat comfort was easily adjustable, but rear-seat legroom was tighter, requiring front-row occupants to adjust their seats for more space. The rear bench could recline for added comfort.

Technology

8/10

The 2023 Lincoln Aviator Black Label Grand Touring was equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Alexa integration. However, it ran on the outdated Sync 3 software, which struggled with voice recognition and navigation accuracy. The Aviator also included a 28-speaker Revel Ultima 3D audio system, wireless charging, and a digital key system. The head-up display was visible even with polarized sunglasses, and parking sensors and a surround-view camera system aided in parking.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 featured a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The interface was user-friendly, with large icons and logical menus. The GV70 included four USB ports, wireless charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a nine-speaker stereo system. Ambient lighting, a digital instrument panel, and the Genesis digital key were available features. The rotary dial for infotainment control was located near the vehicle’s rotary shifter, which could cause confusion.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 offered a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance technologies, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring. The Advance Package added features like a blind-spot camera system and a 360-degree parking camera. The Electrified GV70 included most of these features as standard, with the head-up display available in the Prestige trim.
