2021 Chrysler Pacifica Reviews Summary

The Chrysler Pacifica minivan has undergone a styling and tech refresh for the 2021 model year. It continues to deliver what families want and need from a daily driver. Chrysler continues to offer the model with either a traditional V6 engine or hybrid powertrain and has upped the ante with a new premium Pinnacle trim level. With 97 standard safety features and gobs of well-designed storage space, it’s easy to see why the Pacifica is the perfect choice for many families.

2021 Honda CR-V Reviews Summary

Even in a grim year, Honda is selling a staggering number of CR-Vs. The CR-V is the best-selling Honda by far. It’s also the second best-selling compact SUV, just behind the Toyota RAV4. And it's the fifth best-selling vehicle in the U.S., and if you take out all the commercial sales of full-size pickups it’s one of the two best-selling vehicles year in and year out.

So it’s hard to argue against the CR-V formula. Honda’s been at this almost as long as crossovers have been a thing, launching the CR-V in 1997—a year after the RAV4 debuted.

The funny thing is, aside from sales volume, there’s only one thing the CR-V particularly excels at. Aesthetics are subjective, but it would be hard to argue the CR-V is the best looking vehicle in its class. It’s not the cheapest. It’s not the best equipped, especially at the middle to lower trim levels. It’s not the fastest, nor is it the quietest, or the most fuel efficient. It’s not even the most reliable, showing up nowhere in J.D. Power's Most Reliable list.

So what makes it so appealing to American consumers? Let’s see if we can figure that out.

Look and feel

2021 Chrysler Pacifica

9/10

2021 Honda CR-V

6/10

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica underwent a significant mid-generation refresh, resulting in a more muscular exterior design. The new hexagonal grille and standard LED headlights contributed to a streamlined front end, moving away from the elegance of previous models. The rear featured an all-LED taillamp spanning the width of the vehicle, with the Chrysler wing badge at its center. The Pacifica offered six new wheel designs and the S Appearance Package, which included darkened features and black accents. Inside, the Pacifica balanced sophistication and practicality, especially in the Pinnacle trim, which boasted premium materials like quilted leather seats and a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The minivan's sound-deadening technology was enhanced, providing a quieter ride.

In contrast, the 2021 Honda CR-V's design was more conventional, blending in with other compact crossovers. While it had a few distinguishing features like the grille and chromed plastic accents, its exterior was not a major selling point. The CR-V was available in eight colors, though many were shades of gray, black, or white, with vibrant options limited to higher trims. Inside, the CR-V offered a modern look with angular seats and a choice of cloth or leather upholstery. While it didn't stand out in terms of design, the CR-V was functional and comfortable, with a focus on practicality over aesthetics.

Performance

2021 Chrysler Pacifica

8/10

2021 Honda CR-V

6/10

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica offered two powertrain options: a 3.6-liter V6 engine with 287 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, and a hybrid version with a V6 engine, dual-motor electrically variable transmission, and a 16-kilowatt-hour battery, achieving 260 horsepower. The hybrid model had an all-electric range of over 30 miles and a total range exceeding 500 miles, delivering 82 MPGe and 30 mpg combined. The traditional V6 Pacifica achieved 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, with AWD models slightly less efficient. The AWD system was a new addition, automatically engaging when needed for improved traction.

The 2021 Honda CR-V was powered by a 190-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine across all trims, with a 0-60 mph time of about 7.8 seconds. It featured a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that provided smooth acceleration but lacked engagement. The CR-V came standard with front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive available as an option. Its suspension setup included a MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear, offering decent handling and ride quality. While not the most thrilling to drive, the CR-V was reliable and predictable, making it a solid choice for everyday use.
