The current average of $20,920 sits slightly below last year's $21,252. That suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and trim appeal than on broad market momentum alone. Well-kept examples should still attract interest, especially if they present as clean, well-equipped, and reasonably priced.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 Hyundai Sonata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.56% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $19,014, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $20,920 average.
• It offers strong value with a quiet cabin and standard advanced safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and buyer appeal, the 2023 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2022 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers many of the Sonata traits that make the model appealing.
