What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Maverick?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any truck you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a close inspection of the cabin, infotainment behavior, and any signs of hard use, since this model’s value proposition depends heavily on condition. Pay extra attention to whether the truck’s equipment matches the trim and package claims in the listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base XL comes with 17-inch Sparkle Silver-painted steel wheels, while XLT gets 17-inch Carbonized Gray aluminum wheels and Lariat gets 18-inch Bright aluminum wheels. The Tremor package adds blacked-out exterior details, orange accents, tow hooks, and a more adventurous look, while the FX4 package changes the wheel treatment on XLT or Lariat.
• Powertrain: The standard setup is a hybrid powertrain with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. A 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine is also available, with an eight-speed automatic transmission and optional all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 suite is standard, and it includes automatic high beams, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, and a rear view camera. Available features include adaptive cruise control, lane centering, evasive steering assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and hill-descent control.
• Infotainment: The standard touchscreen is 8 inches, and Bluetooth, wired Apple CarPlay, and wired Android Auto are standard. FordPass Connect can add a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot with a subscription, while Lariat models get a 6.5-inch LED driver display and additional convenience features.
• Fuel efficiency: The hybrid returns 40 mpg city, 33 highway, and 37 combined. The gas engine returns 25 mpg city, 30 highway, and 25 combined.

Which 2023 Ford Maverick trim should I buy?

The 2023 Ford Maverick is offered in 3 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Maverick’s core value proposition at the lowest price. It’s the trim to consider if you want the truck’s efficiency and utility without paying for extra comfort or appearance upgrades.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more polished wheel setup and serves as the main gateway to the Maverick’s available off-road and capability packages. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, start here.
• Lariat: This is the most upscale trim, with 18-inch Bright aluminum wheels, a larger driver display, and added convenience features like a power-sliding rear window, ambient lighting, and push-button start. It makes the most sense if you want the most comfort and tech the Maverick offers.

Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 suite is standard across the lineup, so you don’t need to move up a trim just to get the core safety basics.

• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.55% compared with last year.

What is the 2023 Ford Maverick's resale value?

The current average of $25,765 sits slightly below last year's $27,868.

That price movement suggests the Maverick has cooled from its earlier level, which can help you as a buyer but may temper short-term resale upside if you plan to sell soon. Even so, a model with strong efficiency and broad appeal can still hold attention well in the used market. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain the truck carefully, you should be in a better position when it’s time to resell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Ford Maverick safe?

The 2023 Ford Maverick earned a four-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) losing points for rollover resistance and for the passenger’s side in the frontal crash test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 suite is standard, so every trim gets automatic high beams, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, and a rear view camera. Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control, lane centering, evasive steering assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and hill-descent control. The expert testing also noted that the reverse camera picked up cross traffic farther away than many systems do, which can be helpful if you want extra warning.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford Maverick or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.55% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The Tremor package joins the lineup for year two, adding more adventurous capability and giving the truck a distinct off-road edge.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,241, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $25,765 average.
• It keeps the Maverick’s approachable, value-focused character while staying simple and easy to understand.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-year shopping mix and the added Tremor option, the 2023 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 is the more budget-friendly path.
