CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Honda Ridgeline
overall

Summary
With 2,311 currently listed for sale and an average price of $31,992, 32.2% of 2023 Honda Ridgelines for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Honda Ridgeline 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
87.2% of 2023 Ridgeline models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Honda Ridgeline stands out by rejecting the usual pickup formula in favor of practicality and purpose. It is presented as a midsize truck for buyers who need something capable of handling modest tasks without the compromises that come with a traditional pickup. That makes it especially appealing as a daily driver, and its exceptional practicality is one of its clearest strengths.
It also earns praise for its great safety ratings, while owners commonly highlight its comfort, smooth ride, versatility, and useful storage space. The main tradeoffs are just as clear: its technology is outdated, and it falls short on towing capacity. It is also not as capable as some rivals off-road, so the Ridgeline makes its case more through everyday usefulness than through hard-core truck credentials.

A great all round vehicle that us reliable and versatile - It drives more like an suv than a truck, so its quite comfortable and quiet, but is also can haul and store quite a bit in its bed and trunk area

Great truck! Rides as good as wife’s SUV. Didn’t want a full size vehicle; they’re just too big and bulky. Doesn’t feel/drive like a truck, but has all the features as one. Very smooth ride. Love the “hidden “ compartment in the bed. All around good features.

I absolutely love the way this truck handles. It drives so smooth but is rugged like a truck should be. Super comfortable seats and all those little luxurious extras too!

The expert evaluation also emphasizes its refined driving character and strong on-road manners, which supports the idea that it is built for steady, trouble-free use over time.
Honda also includes two years or 24,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about living with aging technology and the truck’s limited towing and off-road capability.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda Ridgeline?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because accident-free listings are not the same as problem-free listings. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin electronics, infotainment responsiveness, and driver-assistance behavior, since those are the areas most likely to affect day-to-day satisfaction. It also makes sense to focus on overall condition and maintenance records, especially if you plan to keep the truck for a long time.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Sport is the base model, and the higher trims add more convenience and luxury equipment. The base trim misses blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, so if those matter to you, you should look higher in the lineup.
- Powertrain: Every version uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and torque-vectoring all-wheel drive. It is tuned for refined on-road driving, but towing and serious off-road use are not its strengths.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are not standard on the base trim.
- Infotainment: The truck uses an 8-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus basic HondaLink services. Wireless smartphone charging, navigation, and premium audio are limited to higher trims, and the system’s slow startup and dated graphics are worth checking in person.
- Fuel efficiency: The truck is rated at 21 mpg combined and 24 mpg on the highway, and it averaged 22.6 mpg on a road trip test.
Which 2023 Honda Ridgeline trim should I buy?
The 2023 Honda Ridgeline is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, RTL, RTL-E, Black Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Ridgeline’s core strengths: the V6, all-wheel drive, practical packaging, and standard Honda Sensing. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but you give up blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
- RTL: This is the trim to focus on if you want the best balance of value and everyday comfort. It adds the safety features missing from Sport, which makes it the best-value choice for many used buyers.
- RTL-E: This trim adds the more desirable tech and convenience upgrades, including navigation, premium sound, cargo bed speakers, and wireless smartphone charging. Choose it if you want a more fully equipped Ridgeline without going all the way to the top.
- Black Edition: This is the most upscale version, with the richest feature set and the most premium presentation. It suits you if you want the most equipment and are willing to pay for it.
Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert require stepping up from Sport to RTL.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda Ridgeline?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.
- Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,338 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.81% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 87.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $31,735.07, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Honda Ridgeline's resale value?
The current average of $32,010 sits slightly below last year's $33,628.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more on condition, trim, and equipment than on broad market momentum alone.
Because the Ridgeline has strong owner satisfaction and a practical reputation, well-kept examples should continue to draw interest. If you buy carefully and maintain it well, you can help protect value even in a market where prices have eased.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Honda Ridgeline safe?
It earns mostly favorable crash-test and safety ratings from IIHS, and it gets top marks in all NHTSA crash tests plus a four-star rollover resistance rating.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. The main safety-package gap is that blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are not standard on Sport and require moving up to RTL.
One caveat is that the driver-assistance systems are not as smooth or refined as newer Honda setups, and the lane-departure warning can feel intrusive. The adaptive cruise control can also struggle to hold a perfectly consistent following distance.
Should I buy a 2023 Honda Ridgeline or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.81% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It emphasizes comfort, practicality, and strong safety ratings over traditional truck compromises.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $29,491, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $32,010 average.
- It carries over unchanged and focuses on comfort, value, and everyday livability.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $34,773, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $32,010 average.
- It adds a TrailSport trim and modernizes the interior with useful updates.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of current pricing, strong owner satisfaction, and broad inventory, the 2023 is the smart default. If price matters most, the 2022 is the value play. If you want the newest updates and can spend more, the 2024 is the upgrade path.
