Is the 2023 Audi Q5 a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 model from owners, paired with an expert rating of 6.5/10. The model scores 7/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise the Q5’s luxurious feel, advanced technology, stylish design, and comfortable interior. The overview also points to a calm, refined daily-driving experience, with a comfortable and quiet cabin that makes the SUV easy to live with.

The main trade-off is sluggish initial acceleration, and the expert notes that the slow-to-react power delivery can make the Q5 feel slower than expected when pulling away. The overview also frames it as a small luxury SUV that’s enjoyable and well-equipped rather than especially quick.

With its standard all-wheel drive and polished, everyday-friendly character, the Q5 fits you best if you want a luxury SUV that emphasizes comfort and ease of use over outright speed. The market still looks healthy, with 43.9% of listings marked as good or great deals.

The Q5’s calm cabin, standard all-wheel drive, and generally polished execution support the idea that it should be easy to count on over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic dependability and more about whether prior maintenance and wear items were kept up properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Audi Q5?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple trims or higher-mileage examples. Focus on overall condition, signs of interior wear, and whether the technology and driver-assistance features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is standard with leather seating, heated front seats, and a 10-inch touchscreen, while a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats are available. The Q5’s age is beginning to show, so you should pay attention to whether the trim you’re considering adds the comfort and tech upgrades you want.
• Powertrain: The Q5 is available with three engines: a 201-hp 40 TFSI, a 261-hp 45 TFSI, and a 362-hp 55 TFSI plug-in hybrid. The standard setup includes a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and standard Quattro all-wheel drive, and the expert notes that initial acceleration can feel delayed.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and front and rear parking sensors. Premium Plus adds lane-keep assist, a surround-view camera system, and traffic jam assist, while Prestige adds matrix-design LED headlights, a head-up display, a semi-automated parking system, and a traffic sign reader.
• Infotainment: All Q5s come with a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, smartphone app control, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Mid-range trims add a customizable digital instrument panel, and higher trims get a Bang & Olufsen audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The 40 TFSI is rated at 23 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, while the 45 TFSI is rated at 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. The plug-in hybrid 55 TFSI is estimated at 23 miles of electric range and 26 mpg in combined driving once the battery is depleted.

Which 2023 Audi Q5 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Audi Q5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Q5 experience with standard all-wheel drive, leather seating, heated front seats, and the full safety baseline. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it’s the least feature-rich choice.
• Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim because it adds a good amount of tech and safety equipment without pushing the price as far as the top model. You get upgrades like lane-keep assist, a surround-view camera system, traffic jam assist, and a customizable digital instrument panel.
• Prestige: This is the trim for you if you want the most upscale Q5 experience, with matrix-design LED headlights, a head-up display, a semi-automated parking system, and a traffic sign reader. It suits buyers who want the fullest feature set and are willing to pay for it.

Rear-seat side impact airbags are offered as an option on all trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Audi Q5?

It looks like a buyer’s market, with strong inventory and a meaningful price drop from last year.

• Deal availability: 43.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,137 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.59% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,982, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Audi Q5's resale value?

The current average of $28,982 sits slightly below last year's $31,705.

That price movement suggests the Q5 has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. A softer market now can also make it easier for you to find a cleaner example without paying peak pricing.

If demand stays supported by the model’s strong owner satisfaction and premium reputation, resale should remain reasonably stable. The key for you is to buy well, keep mileage and condition in check, and avoid overpaying for a trim that doesn’t add much value.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Audi Q5 safe?

The 2023 Audi Q5 earns five-star ratings for overall, frontal, and side protection from NHTSA, and four-star ratings in rollover testing. It also earns the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award with Good ratings across crashworthiness tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and front and rear parking sensors. Higher trims add lane-keep assist, a surround-view camera system, and traffic jam assist, while the top trim adds matrix-design LED headlights, a head-up display, a semi-automated parking system, and a traffic sign reader.

One caveat is that rear-seat side impact airbags are optional rather than standard, so you may want to confirm whether a used example has them if that matters to you.

Should I buy a 2023 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 43.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.59% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary says it’s an attractive small luxury SUV that’s sporty and comfortable, with a big flaw in sluggish initial acceleration.

The bottom line: The 2023 Q5 makes the most sense if you want a well-rounded luxury SUV and can live with its slow initial response. If you’re especially price-sensitive, this year’s softer pricing and strong deal share make it worth a close look; if you want a more polished all-around package, you may also want to compare nearby model years for feature changes and pricing differences.
