CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Toyota Tundra
overall

Summary
With 3,342 currently listed for sale and an average price of $39,527.00, 34.5% of 2022 Toyota Tundras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Toyota Tundra 4.69 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
85.2% of 2022 Tundra models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Toyota Tundra arrives as an all-new full-size half-ton pickup, and that alone makes it distinctive. Toyota replaces the old formula with V6 engines and an available hybrid powertrain, giving the truck a more modern mechanical identity. It is offered with rear-wheel drive or available four-wheel drive, and buyers can choose between four-door Double Cab and four-door CrewMax configurations across six trim levels. That breadth of body styles and trims helps the Tundra appeal to shoppers who want a truck that can be tailored to work, family, or everyday use.
What continues to define the Tundra is its reputation for durability and value, along with a loyal owner base. The new model also brings updates in almost every area and is described as offering impressive technology. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: the loss of the V8 may disappoint longtime fans, the design may be polarizing, and it is much more expensive than the 2021 model. Even so, the 2022 Toyota Tundra stands out as a major reset for Toyota’s pickup, aimed at winning over both existing loyalists and new buyers.

Best truck I've driven. Had a 07 tundra sr5 for 8 years over 300k miles. Bought this truck for cheap. Noticed it had its recall still open. O trust Toyota so just dropped it off to get the new engine put in. Saved me 25k getting a new one. This truck is a beast and now im back to 0 miles soon. Best buy ever!

The truck was nice and clean, however when driving it pulled to the right no matter where on the road I was driving. I appreciate that it had been in 2 accidents before, but as a Toyota certified used vehicle it should not have done this.

Is the 2022 Toyota Tundra a good car?
Yes — the 4.69/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.83/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its powerful engine, advanced features, and reliability, and many also like its solid feel and smooth ride. The Tundra’s broad cab and trim lineup helps it fit work, family, and everyday use, which matches the model’s flexible positioning in the market. On the other hand, some owners question whether the price matches the value, and the truck’s higher cost can make the decision harder if you are shopping carefully.
With a moderate market verdict and 29.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to compare options without rushing.
Is the 2022 Toyota Tundra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.69/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe it as reliable, and the feedback also points to a durable, trouble-free ownership experience with a truck that feels solid over time. The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by emphasizing the Tundra’s durability and the kind of long-haul dependability that loyal owners value. Toyota also includes standard Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, which adds to the sense that the truck is built for steady everyday use.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is paying too much for a truck whose value is tied heavily to reputation and condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Tundra?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the truck’s condition, especially if you are looking at higher-mileage examples or trucks that may have been used for towing or work. Focus on how the cabin, bed, and mechanical components have held up, since those are the areas that will tell you the most about prior use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SR starts with an 8-inch touchscreen, while SR5 can add a 14-inch screen and Limited makes that larger display standard; upper trims bring more premium materials and amenities.
- Powertrain: The standard twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 makes 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, while the hybrid i-Force Max raises output to 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard and includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed range dynamic radar adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, automatic high beams, and road sign assist. Blind-spot monitor is not available on SR and is standard on all other trim levels except SR.
- Infotainment: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all models, with an 8-inch touchscreen on SR and SR5 and a 14-inch touchscreen standard on Limited and above.
- Fuel efficiency: Toyota estimates 18 mpg city/23 mpg highway/20 mpg combined for rear-wheel-drive gas models and 17 mpg city/22 mpg highway/19 mpg combined for four-wheel-drive gas models.
Which 2022 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?
The 2022 Toyota Tundra is offered in 6 trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794, and TRD Pro.
Here's the short version:
- SR: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and the core Tundra experience without extra luxury content.
- SR5: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because Toyota calls it a core trim, and it can add the 14-inch touchscreen while keeping the truck broadly affordable.
- Limited: This is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale cabin, the standard 14-inch touchscreen, and a stronger mix of comfort and tech.
- Platinum: Choose this if you want a more premium feel and access to higher-end tech such as the available head-up display.
- 1794: This is the luxury-focused choice, with Toyota positioning it as the brand’s ultimate luxury truck.
- TRD Pro: Pick this if you want the flagship off-road-oriented model with FOX shocks and aluminum skid plates.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard across the lineup, and blind-spot monitoring is standard on all trims except SR.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Tundra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,393 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.63% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $39,400.63, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Toyota Tundra's resale value?
The current average of $39,381 sits slightly below last year's $42,636.
That softer pricing can help you buy more truck for the money now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays pressured. If you buy well and keep the truck in strong condition, you can still protect value, especially because the Tundra has a loyal owner base and a reputation for durability. The broad trim range and strong demand for well-equipped trucks should help support interest when you eventually sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.69/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Toyota Tundra safe?
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard on all models, and it includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed range dynamic radar adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, automatic high beams, and road sign assist. The Star Safety System is also standard, along with eight airbags, LATCH connectors on the outboard second-row seats, tire-pressure monitoring, hill-start control, and parking support brake with rear cross-traffic alert.
Blind-spot monitor is standard on all trim levels except SR, where it is not available. That trim-level gap is worth checking closely if safety equipment matters to you.
Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.63% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.69/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 brings a full redesign with new powertrains, a modern cabin, and a major technology upgrade.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $39,058, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $39,381 average.
- It offers a familiar, straightforward truck with proven fundamentals.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $43,522, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $39,381 average.
- It largely carries forward the redesigned formula while adding an SX appearance package for SR5.
The bottom line: If you want the biggest leap in modernity, the 2022 is the right starting point. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value play. If you want the newer model-year carryover and do not mind paying more, the 2023 is the alternative to compare.
