CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Toyota Tundra
overall

Summary
With 3,309 currently listed for sale and an average price of $39,080, 34.4% of 2022 Toyota Tundras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Toyota Tundra 4.69 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
84.4% of 2022 Tundra models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Toyota Tundra stands out as an all-new version of Toyota’s full-size half-ton pickup, and that fresh start is a big part of its appeal. It comes with rear-wheel drive or available four-wheel drive, and it is offered in Double Cab and CrewMax configurations across six trim levels. For buyers who value Toyota’s long-standing reputation for durability and value, the Tundra also brings a loyal following and a broad update that touches nearly every area.
What makes this truck especially notable is the move to V6 engines and an available hybrid powertrain, along with technology that is described as impressive. It also offers multiple cab and bed lengths, which adds flexibility for different kinds of truck use. At the same time, the Tundra has some clear tradeoffs: it no longer offers a V8 engine, its design may be polarizing, and it is much more expensive than the 2021 model.

Best truck I've driven. Had a 07 tundra sr5 for 8 years over 300k miles. Bought this truck for cheap. Noticed it had its recall still open. O trust Toyota so just dropped it off to get the new engine put in. Saved me 25k getting a new one. This truck is a beast and now im back to 0 miles soon. Best buy ever!

The truck was nice and clean, however when driving it pulled to the right no matter where on the road I was driving. I appreciate that it had been in 2 accidents before, but as a Toyota certified used vehicle it should not have done this.

Owners rate it 4.69/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe it as reliable and durable, and the feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience over the long term. The twin-turbo V6 is described as smooth and consistent, which supports the sense that the truck is built to be counted on day after day.
Toyota also backs the truck with standard driver-assistance and safety hardware across the lineup, which can help reduce ownership stress. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is paying a premium for a truck that may still be priced close to new-truck territory.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Tundra?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are not the same as guaranteed problem-free trucks. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin, bed, suspension, and electronics, especially if the truck has been used for towing or off-road driving. Focus on overall condition and equipment level so you know whether the asking price matches the truck’s actual wear.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup ranges from SR to TRD Pro, and the base SR is the most stripped-down version. Higher trims add more premium materials and amenities, while the TRD Pro stands apart with its top-tier hardware and styling.
- Powertrain: You get a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, plus an available hybrid setup with 437 hp and 583 lb-ft. Toyota estimates 18 mpg city/23 mpg highway/20 mpg combined for rear-wheel-drive gas models and 17 mpg city/22 mpg highway/19 mpg combined with four-wheel drive.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard, with pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed range dynamic radar adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, automatic high beams, and road sign assist. Blind-spot monitor is not available on SR and is standard on all other trim levels except SR.
- Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen is standard on SR and SR5, while a 14-inch screen is standard on Limited and above and optional on SR5. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and Toyota Connected services are included with a trial period.
- Fuel efficiency: Toyota estimates 18 mpg city/23 mpg highway/20 mpg combined for rear-wheel-drive gas models and 17 mpg city/22 mpg highway/19 mpg combined for four-wheel-drive gas models.
Which 2022 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?
The 2022 Toyota Tundra is offered in 6 trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794, and TRD Pro.
Here's the short version:
- SR: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live with the most basic equipment. It gets the standard 8-inch screen and the core safety suite, but it leaves you with fewer comfort and convenience upgrades than the higher trims.
- SR5: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it sits in the core of the lineup and adds more flexibility without jumping too far in price. It can be had with the larger 14-inch touchscreen as an option, and it remains one of the trims Toyota expects to sell in the highest volume.
- Limited: This is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale cabin and the strongest tech payoff. It gets the 14-inch touchscreen standard, and it is the first trim where the infotainment and instrument-panel upgrades really start to feel substantial.
- Platinum: Choose this if you want a more premium-feeling truck with more advanced display and convenience content. It builds on the Limited’s equipment and is a better fit if you care about a richer daily driving experience.
- 1794: This is the luxury-focused choice, aimed at buyers who want the most upscale Tundra experience. It is the trim to consider if comfort and presentation matter more than keeping the price in check.
- TRD Pro: This is the flagship for buyers who want the most capability and the most distinctive personality. It comes standard with four-wheel drive and adds the most serious off-road hardware in the lineup.
Blind-spot monitor is standard on all trims except SR, where it is not available.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Tundra?
The market looks moderate and selective, so you can buy now if the right truck shows up at the right price.
- Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,290 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.00% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 84.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $39,080, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Toyota Tundra's resale value?
The current average of $39,103 sits slightly below last year's $42,502.
That softer pricing suggests the truck has become more approachable for buyers, which can help keep demand healthy in the near term. For a future seller, that means you may not be buying at the peak of the market, but you also have a better chance of attracting shoppers who are comparing value across the segment. The Tundra’s loyal following and strong reputation for durability should help support demand if you keep the truck in good condition.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.69/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.00% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.69/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It brings an all-new redesign with a modern powertrain and a full technology overhaul.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $38,810, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $39,103 average.
- It offers proven fundamentals with a simpler, older-school feel.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $43,277, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $39,103 average.
- It keeps the redesign formula and adds an SX appearance package for SR5.
The bottom line: If you want the newest-generation Tundra with the strongest mix of technology, powertrain updates, and owner satisfaction, the 2022 is the primary year to target. If price matters most, the 2021 can save you money, while the 2023 makes sense if you want the same basic formula and are willing to pay more.
