CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Toyota Sienna
overall

Summary
With 1,253 currently listed for sale and an average price of $37,391.00, 31.8% of 2022 Toyota Siennas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Toyota Sienna 4.75 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.67 / 10.
82.6% of 2022 Sienna models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Toyota Sienna stands out as a hybrid minivan that carries over Toyota’s redesigned formula into its second model year. Its standard hybrid powertrain returns unchanged, giving it a fuel-efficient character that helps define the vehicle’s appeal. For buyers who want a family hauler with a more adventurous look, a new Woodland trim level is available.
Beyond its efficiency, the 2022 Toyota Sienna is also notable for its practicality. It offers plenty of cargo space and earns great safety ratings, both of which matter in a minivan aimed at families. The main drawback is price: it is priced higher than competitors, so shoppers may need to weigh its strengths against that premium.

After doing some research, we decided that a Honda or Toyota mini-van would be the best option for our expanding family. We ultimately went with the Toyota Sienna due to it being a hybrid, captain seats in the middle row, full trunk that will actually fit stuff, and the drive ability.

Hybrid Sienna is great value. Compare to more expensive Hybrid Pacifica. Other brands should come online next year. Supply of Sienna Hybrid is very low. Not taking new orders. Probably will be well into 2023 model year before supply returns.

Great fuel economy for this size vehicle. Little expensive, but will save on gas during ownership. Needs a little more power hp, but would be buying for the great gas mileage. Compare this Sienna to a Chrysler Pacifica hybrid, which is also expensive.

| Year-Round High | $39,708.19 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $39,709 |

Prices have softened 5.84% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 1,249 listings available, you have a solid amount of inventory to compare across trims and conditions.
If you find a listing below $36,529.57, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — the 4.75/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.67/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.
The Sienna’s appeal is straightforward: it gives you a standard hybrid powertrain, a spacious family-focused cabin, and a design that tries to bring some SUV-like presence to the minivan formula. That combination makes it especially relevant if you want efficiency without giving up passenger room or cargo flexibility.
The main trade-off is price, since it is priced higher than some competitors. You also give up some convenience tech that many shoppers expect today, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
With 32.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Sienna’s standard hybrid setup is designed to deliver smooth, efficient driving, and the hybrid battery carries an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty. Toyota also backs the vehicle with a 36-month/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 60-month/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
The hybrid system’s efficiency focus and Toyota’s warranty coverage help reduce some ownership anxiety, especially if you plan to keep the vehicle for several years. For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is simply making sure the vehicle has been maintained well and hasn’t had hidden damage or neglect.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Sienna?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status is only a starting point. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on hybrid operation, cabin wear, and any signs of heavy family use. Pay close attention to seating condition, storage-area wear, and whether the vehicle’s features work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Base models get the essentials, but upper trims add larger wheels, more upscale cabin touches, and more convenience features.
- Powertrain: The Sienna uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid setup with 243 horsepower, and AWD is available across the lineup.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, Lane Tracing Assist, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition.
- Infotainment: A 9-inch touchscreen is standard, along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, and multiple USB ports. Wireless phone mirroring is not included.
- Fuel efficiency: FWD models are rated at 36 mpg city/36 mpg highway/36 mpg combined, while AWD models are rated at 35 mpg city/36 mpg highway/35 mpg combined.
Which 2022 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2022 Toyota Sienna is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Platinum, Woodland Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LE gives you the core hybrid minivan package, but it is the most basic way into the lineup and misses some of the upscale convenience and comfort features found higher up.
- Sweet-spot trim: The XLE is the best value for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience without jumping all the way to luxury pricing.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited and Platinum trims bring the most upscale tech and comfort features, including higher-end displays and available digital rearview mirror equipment.
- Off-road trim: The Woodland Edition is the one to watch if you want AWD and a more adventurous setup, but it is less relevant if you mainly drive in typical suburban or urban conditions.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Sienna?
The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.
- Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,249 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.84% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 82.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $36,529.57, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $37,391 sits slightly below last year's $39,709.
That softer pricing can help you buy more strategically now, but it also suggests the model has already absorbed some of its recent market premium. If you buy well, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation compared with paying near the top of the range.
The Sienna’s strong efficiency, family-friendly packaging, and broad appeal should help support demand over time. Well-kept examples with clean history and desirable equipment are likely to remain easier to resell than neglected ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Toyota Sienna safe?
The 2022 Sienna was a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS and a five-star vehicle according to NHTSA.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, Lane Tracing Assist, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition. Toyota’s Star Safety System is also standard, adding stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and electronic brake-force distribution.
You also get 10 airbags, multiple LATCH child-seat connectors, and a rear-seat reminder system. For used buyers, that combination makes the Sienna a strong family-hauling choice, especially if you want a minivan with a deep standard safety roster.
Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.84% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 keeps the standard hybrid powertrain and adds a Woodland trim for buyers who want a more adventurous look.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $35,115, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $37,391 average.
- It introduced the standard hybrid Sienna redesign.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $42,428, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $37,391 average.
- It adds a 25th Anniversary Special Edition trim.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of current pricing, strong safety, and hybrid efficiency, the 2022 is the primary year to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2021 is the value play, while the 2023 makes sense only if you want to pay more for a newer model-year update.
