You should still run a history report on every listing you consider, even if the market looks healthy. Strong demand for practical sedans with standard all-wheel drive can help support interest, especially when the car is well kept.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,376, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $20,520 average.
• It offers standard all-wheel drive with practical comfort and strong safety focus.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2022 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2021 is the better value-first alternative and still delivers the Legacy’s core strengths.
