How much does the 2022 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 11.51% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,320 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — the 4.9/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.8/10. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, stylish design, high-quality features, added safety features, and quiet performance. For buyers who want a luxury compact crossover that feels polished and easy to live with, that combination is compelling.

The main trade-offs are that some drivers found it larger than necessary, and the base engine is not especially exciting. In practical terms, that means the X3 makes the most sense if you value comfort, refinement, and equipment over outright sportiness.

The model’s 34.8% good and great deal share suggests there are still worthwhile listings to find.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with comfort and quiet operation standing out as recurring strengths. On the expert side, the X3’s performance is described as quiet and compliant, which supports the impression of a well-sorted daily driver.

If you’re shopping used, the biggest long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well, since premium crossovers can become expensive if deferred maintenance stacks up.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW X3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are common but not guaranteed. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a luxury crossover like this, where condition and maintenance history can matter as much as mileage. Focus on wear items, electronics, and evidence of consistent service.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The X3 sDrive30i is the only rear-wheel-drive model, while the other X3 variants are all-wheel drive. The M Sport Package adds a more aggressive exterior look, larger front air intakes, a sportier rear bumper, a rear diffuser, and blacked-out exterior details, so base-trim shoppers should check whether those appearance and chassis-related upgrades matter to them.
• Powertrain: The standard models use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The M40i steps up to a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder with a mild-hybrid system and 382 hp.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems. The available Driving Assistant Professional Package adds traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centering, side collision avoidance, and Active Driving Assistant.
• Infotainment: Standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus includes a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a 5.1-inch digital instrument display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, over-the-air updates, navigation, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. An optional upgrade expands both screens to 12.3 inches.
• Fuel efficiency: The sDrive30i is rated at 23 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The xDrive30i returns 21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The M40i is rated at 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2022 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW X3 is offered in 4 trim levels: sDrive30i, xDrive30i, M40i, and M.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive30i: This is the entry point and the only rear-wheel-drive version, so it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and the core X3 experience without paying for AWD.
• xDrive30i: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds all-wheel drive while keeping the same 2.0-liter turbo-four and much of the same equipment.
• M40i: This is the pick if you want the strongest blend of performance and everyday usability, with the 3.0-liter turbo-six, mild-hybrid system, and a much more engaging drive.
• M: This is the performance-focused choice if you want the most aggressive X3 character and are shopping for the top-tier version.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but the available driver-assistance upgrades add meaningful convenience and parking help if you want more than the standard setup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW X3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,320 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.51% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,995, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $27,995 sits slightly below last year's $31,635.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer now but may temper resale upside if you sell soon. If prices stay soft, future sellers may need to price more aggressively to stand out. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should still hold up better than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 safe?

The 2022 BMW X3 has been awarded a five-star crash safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the 2018 X3 was named a Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment is extensive, including adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems. The available Driving Assistant Professional Package adds traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centering, side collision avoidance, and Active Driving Assistant.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.51% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 refresh adds more technology and safety features.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $23,812, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,995 average.
• It offers a strong mix of spaciousness, technology, and everyday usability.

The bottom line: If you want the newer refresh, stronger feature content, and better market availability, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play.
