Is the 2022 Volvo XC60 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Volvo XC60 earns a 4.83/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its smooth driving experience, comfort, and high-quality features, and many also like the sporty options and advanced technology. The expert evaluation also emphasizes solid engineering and a calm, composed driving character, which supports the impression that this is a vehicle you can count on. Volvo’s four-year, 50,000-mile basic and powertrain warranties also help reduce early ownership risk. For used buyers, the main long-term concern is making sure prior maintenance and wear items have been handled carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volvo XC60?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the electronics, suspension, brakes, and tires, since luxury crossovers can hide expensive wear. Focus on overall condition and equipment level, because the XC60’s value depends heavily on how well it was maintained and how many desirable features it has.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Momentum trim is the entry point, while R-Design adds a sportier look and Inscription brings a more upscale cabin with Nappa leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The base setup is more restrained, so you should compare interior materials and appearance carefully if you want a more premium feel.
• Powertrain: The B5 mild hybrid uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with a 48-volt system and is offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, while the B6 adds an electric supercharger and comes only with all-wheel drive. The plug-in hybrid Recharge and Polestar Engineered versions add much more output, but they are a different ownership proposition.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic post-collision braking, a driver-attention monitor, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. Pilot Assist is available as part of an option package, and some helpful features such as AWD and Pilot Assist can be extra-cost items.
• Infotainment: You get a 9-inch touchscreen with Android Automotive, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth, a built-in WiFi hotspot, Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Play Store access, and over-the-air software updates. Wireless smartphone integration is not called out here, so make sure the system meets your needs before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: The B5 is rated at 26 mpg combined with front-wheel drive and 24 mpg combined with all-wheel drive, while the B6 is rated at 24 mpg combined. The Recharge plug-in hybrid is rated at 57 MPGe combined and 19 miles of electric range, with 25 mpg combined in hybrid mode.

Which 2022 Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volvo XC60 is offered in 7 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, Inscription, B6, T8 Recharge Inscription, T8 Recharge R-Design, Polestar Engineered.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the starting point, and it makes the XC60’s core style, safety, and tech accessible without moving up the ladder. It is the trim to consider if you want the cleanest entry into the lineup.
• R-Design: This is the better pick if you want a sportier appearance and a more expressive cabin. It suits you if style matters as much as equipment.
• Inscription: This is the best-value trim if you want the most upscale feel in the standard lineup, thanks to Nappa leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
• B6: This is the right choice if you want stronger output and standard all-wheel drive, especially if you value smoother, more confident acceleration.
• T8 Recharge Inscription: This is for you if you want plug-in hybrid capability with a more luxurious presentation.
• T8 Recharge R-Design: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid setup with a sportier look and feel.
• Polestar Engineered: This is the performance-focused plug-in hybrid, with more power plus Öhlins adjustable dampers and Akebono brakes.

Standard safety features are strong across the lineup, and Pilot Assist remains an available option-package feature rather than a universal standard item.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volvo XC60?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 39.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,337 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.52% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,140, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volvo XC60's resale value?

The current average of $27,384 sits slightly below last year's $32,417.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more selectively now. For a future seller, it also means you should pay close attention to purchase price and condition, because both will shape how much value you can recover later. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than neglected ones, especially in a luxury segment where buyers compare condition closely.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC60 safe?

The 2022 Volvo XC60 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS in the similar 2021 model, and the 2021 model also earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic post-collision braking, a driver-attention monitor, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. New-for-2022 features include Ready to Drive Notification and Emergency Stop Assist. Pilot Assist is available as part of an option package and combines adaptive cruise control with automated lane centering. The main caveat is that the published crash-test ratings are for the similar 2021 model, not this exact model year.

Should I buy a 2022 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 39.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.52% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds new mild-hybrid powertrains, updated styling, and Android-based infotainment.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $23,925, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,384 average.
• It offers a well-rounded luxury feel with strong safety and comfort.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $33,288, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,384 average.
• It emphasizes plug-in hybrid driving with stronger electric-only appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of updated tech, safety, and current-market pricing, the 2022 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is the smarter value play, while the 2023 makes more sense only if you specifically want the plug-in hybrid upgrade and are willing to pay more.
