Is the 2022 Volvo XC60 reliable?

Volvo also includes a four-year, 50,000-mile basic warranty and a four-year, 50,000-mile powertrain warranty, which helps reduce early ownership risk. For used buyers, the bigger concern is making sure prior maintenance and condition are clean, since luxury features can be costly if they were neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volvo XC60?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if it looks clean on paper. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the electronics, driver-assistance systems, and suspension, since those are the kinds of features that can be expensive to sort out later. Focus on overall condition and equipment function, especially if you’re comparing higher-trim examples with more options.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription versions, and the base trim is the most stripped-down choice. The Inscription trim level gets Nappa leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, while the R-Design adds a sportier appearance and more flair.
• Powertrain: The B5 mild hybrid pairs a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with a 48-volt electrical system and is offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The B6 adds an electric supercharger and is AWD only, while the Recharge plug-in hybrid brings a rear electric motor and much stronger output.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic post-collision braking, a driver-attention monitor, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. Pilot Assist is available in an option package, and it combines adaptive cruise control with automated lane centering.
• Infotainment: You get a 9-inch touchscreen with Android Automotive, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth, a built-in WiFi hotspot, Google Assistant, Google Maps, OTA updates, and compatibility with iPhone use as well.
• Fuel efficiency: The B5 is rated at 26 mpg combined with FWD and 24 mpg combined with AWD, while the B6 is rated at 24 mpg combined. The Recharge plug-in hybrid is rated at 57 MPGe combined and 19 miles of electric range.

Which 2022 Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volvo XC60 is offered in 7 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, Inscription, B6, T8 Recharge Inscription, T8 Recharge R-Design, and Polestar Engineered.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the XC60’s style, safety, and tech without stretching into pricier versions. It’s the value play if you’re focused on getting into the model at the lowest cost.
• R-Design: This is the better pick if you want a sportier look and a more expressive cabin. It suits you if appearance and a more athletic vibe matter more than maximum luxury trim content.
• Inscription: This is the best-value trim if you want the most upscale feel in the standard lineup, thanks to Nappa leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It’s the trim to target if you want the XC60’s luxury side to feel most complete.
• B6: This is the stronger choice if you want more power and smoother performance from the mild-hybrid setup. It’s the right move if you’re willing to pay more for the AWD-only powertrain and quicker acceleration.
• T8 Recharge Inscription: This is the pick if you want plug-in hybrid capability with a more luxurious presentation. It makes sense if you want electric-only commuting flexibility without giving up long-trip usability.
• T8 Recharge R-Design: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid powertrain with a sportier visual and character package. It’s for buyers who want efficiency and style in one setup.
• Polestar Engineered: This is the performance-focused choice, with more output plus Öhlins adjustable dampers, Akebono brakes, and a front strut bar. Buy this only if you want the most aggressive version and are comfortable paying for it.

Standard safety features are strong across the lineup, and Pilot Assist remains an available option package rather than a universal feature.

• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.51% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,136, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volvo XC60's resale value?

The current average of $27,354 sits slightly below last year's $32,765.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that depreciation has been meaningful, so resale performance will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability.

The good news is that the XC60 still has strong appeal thanks to its style, safety focus, and upscale image. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC60 safe?

The 2022 Volvo XC60 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS in the comparable 2021 model, and the comparable 2021 model also earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic post-collision braking, a driver-attention monitor, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. New-for-2022 additions include Ready to Drive Notification and Emergency Stop Assist, and Pilot Assist is available in an option package.

The main caveat is that the 2022 model itself does not yet have published crash-test ratings, so you’re leaning on the comparable prior model’s results and Volvo’s standard safety hardware.

Should I buy a 2022 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 40.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.51% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds new mild-hybrid powertrains, updated styling, and Android-based infotainment.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $23,919, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,354 average.
• It feels just right as a midsize crossover with luxury appointments and strong safety.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $33,423, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,354 average.
• It adds a useful plug-in hybrid dual personality for electric-only driving and longer trips.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2022 if you want the updated powertrains, refreshed tech, and a market that currently favors buyers. If price is your top priority, the 2021 is the smarter value play; if you want plug-in hybrid capability and can spend more, the 2023 is the more specialized choice.
