Is the 2022 BMW 8 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2022 BMW 8 Series earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. It’s positioned as a luxury grand tourer with a polished, high-tech cabin, a comfortable but sporty ride, strong engines, and excellent rear passenger room, so it fits well if you want a car that feels substantial and usable without giving up performance. The tradeoffs are expensive options, high depreciation, and a poor turning circle, so it makes the most sense if you value the upscale experience more than low running costs. 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 BMW 8 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 BMW 8 Series is described as a polished, high-tech luxury grand tourer with a comfortable but sporty ride and handling, plus strong engines and excellent rear passenger room. That combination suggests a car built to deliver a premium ownership experience, but the expensive-option structure means you should expect a more complex and costly used-car proposition than a simpler mainstream model. For a used buyer, the main long-term risk is that depreciation and premium-content upkeep can make ownership more expensive than the purchase price alone suggests.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW 8 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should prioritize a history report first, then focus your inspection on condition, maintenance records, and any signs of prior damage or heavy wear. Because this is a luxury grand tourer with expensive options, it’s especially important to confirm that the features you want are working properly and that the car has been cared for consistently. A careful pre-purchase inspection can help you avoid paying premium money for a car that needs premium repairs.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW 8 Series?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 285 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.27% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $48,789, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW 8 Series's resale value?

The current average of $48,789 sits slightly below last year's $54,375.

That decline suggests the market has already absorbed some of the model’s depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell. The car’s luxury positioning and strong equipment list can still support demand, but the broader price trend shows that value retention is not its strongest trait.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW 8 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $45,757, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $48,789 average.
• It emphasizes prestige and big-number appeal.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $59,109, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $48,789 average.
• It adds small styling and touchscreen updates.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around choice if you want the strongest balance of price, satisfaction, and shopping flexibility. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want the newer updates and don’t mind paying more, the 2023 is the upgrade path.
