Used 2021 Toyota Sequoia for Sale nearNewark, NJ

How much does the 2021 Toyota Sequoia cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 143 listings available, which suggests a relatively limited pool of used Sequoias to shop from.

Is the 2021 Toyota Sequoia a good car?

Generally — the 2021 Toyota Sequoia earns a 4.4/5 user rating and a 7.0/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Owners commonly praise its practicality, good looks, and reliable performance, along with a smooth ride and ample features. The Sequoia’s roomy, truck-like layout also fits buyers who want serious space and a traditional full-size SUV feel.

The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy and poor value for money are recurring concerns, and the age of the design gives it a dated feel compared with newer rivals.

For you, that means the Sequoia makes the most sense if you want a large, capable three-row SUV and can live with its old-school character. It closes with 35.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Toyota Sequoia reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to reliable performance, and the model’s age is framed as a positive for durability and long-term dependability. The expert evaluation also describes the Sequoia as having good reliability, with the implication that its long production run has helped keep the formula proven and familiar.

That said, used buyers should still watch for wear tied to age, mileage, and heavy-duty use, since a truck-based SUV like this can accumulate hard service over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Sequoia?

At 73.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the SUV has been used for towing or family hauling. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear in the cabin, and evidence that maintenance has been kept up over time.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SR5 starts with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, three-zone climate control, pushbutton start, remote keyless entry, a 7-inch touchscreen, a power moonroof, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The SR5 Premium Package adds a power-folding/reclining third row, power-adjustable front passenger seat, leather upholstery, and heated front seats. The TRD Sport adds 20-inch wheels, chrome accents, Satin-black TRD logos, TRD floor mats, Bilstein shocks, and a TRD sport-tuned suspension. The Limited adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power liftgate, navigation, and a 12-speaker premium audio system. The Nightshade Edition adds black 20-inch wheels, black leather upholstery, second-row captain’s chairs, and LED fog lights with dark chrome surrounds. The TRD Pro adds Rigid Industries LED fog lights, 18-inch BBS forged aluminum TRD wheels, Fox Racing shocks, a TRD-tuned suspension, skid plates, and a limited-slip center differential. The Platinum adds heated-and-ventilated front seats, heated second-row captain’s chairs, a larger 9-inch touchscreen, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and air suspension.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 5.7-liter V8 with 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive is available. The setup delivers stout acceleration and truck-like driving manners, but it also contributes to weak fuel economy.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense-P is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. You also get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors. There are no optional safety features, and you do not get lane-keeping assist or lane-tracing assist.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and a WiFi hotspot. A 9-inch screen appears on some higher-spec versions, but the system remains simple and easy to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The rear-wheel-drive version returns 13 mpg city, 17 mpg highway, and 15 mpg combined. The four-wheel-drive version keeps the same city and highway figures and returns 14 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Toyota Sequoia trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Sequoia is offered in 6 trim levels: SR5, TRD Sport, Limited, Nightshade Edition, TRD Pro, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Sequoia experience with the standard V8, a 7-inch touchscreen, and the basic comfort and convenience features you need. If you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup, this is the trim to start with.
• TRD Sport: This trim adds a sportier look and a TRD-tuned suspension with Bilstein shocks, so it suits you if you want a little more personality without jumping to the top of the range.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, navigation, a power liftgate, and a 12-speaker premium audio system. It feels like the sweet spot if you want a more upscale Sequoia without going all the way to the top.
• Nightshade Edition: This trim leans into appearance upgrades with blacked-out styling, black leather, and second-row captain’s chairs. It makes sense if you care most about the look and want a more distinctive cabin.
• TRD Pro: This is the off-road-focused choice, with Fox Racing shocks, skid plates, a limited-slip center differential, and TRD-specific hardware. It is the one to choose if you want the most rugged setup in the lineup.
• Platinum: This is the most luxurious version, with heated-and-ventilated front seats, heated second-row captain’s chairs, a larger 9-inch touchscreen, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and air suspension. Choose it if comfort and features matter more than price.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Sequoia?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 143 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $47,586, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Sequoia's resale value?

The current average of $47,586 sits slightly below last year's $47,981.

That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A steady price trend can make it easier to estimate your future trade-in or private-party value without worrying about sharp swings.

The Sequoia’s limited inventory also helps support pricing, since fewer listings can keep demand concentrated around clean examples. If you maintain yours well and keep service records, you should be in a better position when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Sequoia safe?

The 2021 Toyota Sequoia earns four-star ratings in rollover testing from NHTSA.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense-P is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. You also get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors.

One caveat is that the Sequoia rides on an older platform, and it does not offer more advanced features such as lane-keeping assist or lane-tracing assist. That means the standard safety suite is solid, but not especially cutting-edge.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Sequoia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the old-school V8, truck-like character, and standard safety tech while adding the Nightshade Special Edition.

Consider the 2022 if:

• It keeps the same body-on-frame formula but adds a slightly updated trim lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, proven hardware, and available inventory, the 2021 is the better primary target. If you are shopping mainly on price and can find a cleaner or better-equipped example in a nearby year, that can be the smarter secondary path.
