CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Toyota Camry
overall

Summary
With 310 currently listed for sale and an average price of $21,646, 26.8% of 2021 Toyota Camry listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Toyota Camry 4.65 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
87.1% of 2021 Toyota Camry listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Toyota Camry remains a solid all-around midsize sedan, with a reputation built more on reliability and practicality than on flash. For 2021, it received subtle styling tweaks, new infotainment displays, an upgrade to Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, some changes to the dashboard trim, and the discontinuation of the Camry L trim level, which made the Camry LE the new base trim. It also offers a wide range of choices, including three powertrains, six trim levels, and the option of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
That breadth helps the Camry appeal to buyers who want a sedan that can be configured for different priorities, while its comfortable and spacious cabin adds to its everyday usefulness. At the same time, the Camry is not especially known for excitement, and its technology is described as outdated. The base engine is also called underwhelming, so shoppers looking for more character may need to look beyond the entry-level setup.

I absolutely love my 2021 Toyota Camry. From the moment I got it, I honestly fell in love with it. The car looks sporty and modern, but at the same time it’s very comfortable and smooth to drive. It feels reliable and safe, which gives me a lot of confidence, especially as someone still getting used to driving more often. The fuel efficiency is great, and the interior is clean and well-designed. Everything feels solid and easy to use. It’s definitely a great value for the price. If I had to mention something, I wish it had push-button start, but overall I’m extremely happy with my purchase. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone looking for something reliable, stylish, and comfortable.

Is the 2021 Toyota Camry a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Toyota Camry earns a 4.65/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its smooth ride, great handling, fuel efficiency, and reliable performance. The Camry also stands out for its comfortable cabin and practical everyday usability, which fits a sedan aimed at shoppers who want a dependable all-around choice rather than something flashy.

Only 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the best examples may move quickly.
Is the 2021 Toyota Camry reliable?
Owners rate it 4.65/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe the Camry as reliable and dependable, with strong performance that feels easy to count on over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes Toyota’s reputation for reliability and notes that the Camry remains a practical, well-rounded sedan for long-term ownership.
Toyota’s warranty coverage is average for the class, so used buyers should focus on maintenance records and overall condition to reduce ownership risk.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Camry?
At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is especially worthwhile on cars with accident history, since condition can vary widely from one listing to the next. Pay close attention to signs of uneven panel gaps, tire wear, brake feel, and any warning lights or infotainment glitches.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: LE and XLE models get a cleaner grille, while SE, XSE, and TRD trims add more aggressive styling details and visual clutter. The base LE also comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, while higher trims move up to larger wheels and more upscale interior materials.
- Powertrain: The Camry offers a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, a 3.5-liter V6, and a hybrid setup. The four-cylinder is the base choice, the V6 adds much more power, and the hybrid is the efficiency leader.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on XLE and XSE, but optional on LE and SE.
- Infotainment: Standard equipment includes a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims get a 9-inch screen, WiFi capability, navigation, and a nine-speaker JBL audio system.
- Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder LE and SE return 32 mpg combined with FWD and 29 mpg combined with AWD. The V6 is rated at 26 mpg combined in XLE trim, while the hybrid reaches up to 52 mpg combined.
Which 2021 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?
The 2021 Toyota Camry is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, SE, SE Nightshade Edition, XSE, and TRD.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the best-value starting point if you want the Camry’s core strengths without paying for extras. You still get the standard safety suite, a 7-inch touchscreen, and the base four-cylinder powertrain, making it the most straightforward choice for budget-minded shoppers.
- SE: This trim adds a sportier look and sits in the middle of the lineup, which makes it a good fit if you want more style without jumping to the pricier upper trims. It also keeps the Camry’s practical equipment while giving you a more distinctive appearance.
- SE Nightshade Edition: This version builds on the SE with blacked-out exterior trim and wheels. It suits you if you want the SE’s balance but prefer a darker, more customized look.
- XLE: This is the more upscale choice, with leather upholstery and access to more premium tech and comfort features. It’s the right pick if you want a more refined Camry for daily commuting.
- XSE: This trim combines a more premium feel with stronger visual presence and available upscale equipment. It’s a good fit if you want the most polished version of the Camry without going all the way to the TRD.
- TRD: This is the performance-oriented model, with the V6 and chassis upgrades that make it the most enthusiast-focused Camry. Choose it if you want the sportiest driving experience and the most aggressive styling.
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the XLE and XSE, but optional on the LE and SE.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Camry?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully but not so much that the best listings linger.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,231 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.78% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,989, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Toyota Camry's resale value?
The current average of $21,851 sits slightly below last year's $22,247.
That modest decline suggests the Camry has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the model’s broad appeal, strong reputation, and steady demand should help it hold value better than many sedans.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.65/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Toyota Camry safe?
The 2021 Toyota Camry earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in front, side, and rollover crash tests from NHTSA.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition. Toyota also adds Rear Seat Reminder on all trim levels.
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the XLE and XSE trims, but optional on the LE and SE grades.
Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.78% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.65/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 adds updated infotainment displays and Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $20,377, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $21,851 average.
- It adds all-wheel drive and the TRD performance trim.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $23,267, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $21,851 average.
- It keeps the roomy, reliable formula buyers want.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and broad trim choice, the 2021 is the smart default. If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 makes sense if you want to pay more for a newer model-year alternative.
