How much does the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?

Prices have softened 11.87% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 838 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its blend of luxury, performance, and beautiful design, along with the comfortable interior and advanced features. The E-Class also stands out for its powerful engine choices and polished cabin experience, which fit well if you want a premium daily driver that can also feel more expressive when you want it to.

The main trade-offs are that it can feel overpriced and that some desirable features, including active lane keeping assist, may be missing depending on how it’s equipped. The E-Class is especially appealing if you want a versatile luxury sedan with broad configuration choices, and 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with many drivers highlighting its comfortable interior, strong performance, and overall luxury experience. The review summary also suggests that people tend to count on its blend of refinement and advanced features over time.

The expert test-drive notes reinforce that impression by describing the E-Class as a polished, well-rounded luxury car with strong ride quality and a broad range of powertrains. Mercedes also includes a first scheduled maintenance visit on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that this is a complex, high-end car, so condition and maintenance history matter more than they would on a simpler sedan.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate, even if it looks clean on the listing page. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a luxury car like this, because equipment, wear, and prior repairs can vary a lot from one example to the next. Focus on condition, service records, and whether the car has the features you actually want, since some desirable safety and comfort equipment depends on how it was optioned.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is richly finished even in baser trims, but the standing hood ornament is gone on sedans and wagons, and the Sport style is more showy than classic. The Luxury package historically brought smaller wheels and a softer-riding, slightly taller suspension, while AMG models add vertical grille slats, quad exhaust tips, and 20-inch wheels.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a revised 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder in the E350, electrified inline-six powertrains in the E450 and AMG E53, and a hand-built 4.0-liter V8 in the AMG E63 S. The base four-cylinder is described as underwhelming, while the inline-six and AMG setups are quieter, stronger, and more satisfying.
• Safety package: Forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard. All other driver-assist features are optional, so you should check carefully for the equipment you want.
• Infotainment: The system uses dual 12-inch screens, MBUX software, touch input, gesture control, natural voice processing, and online search. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, but they are not wireless, and the system does not update over the air.
• Fuel efficiency: The E450 4Matic sedan returns 26 mpg combined (23 mpg city, 30 mpg highway), and the E350 4Matic sedan returns 25 mpg combined (22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway). The AMG E53 sedan is rated at 25 mpg combined (22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway), while the AMG E63 sedan is rated at 18 mpg combined (16 mpg city, 23 mpg highway).

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 13 trim levels: E350, E450, AMG E53, AMG E63 S, sedan, wagon, coupe, convertible, E350 4Matic, E450 4Matic, E450 coupe, E450 convertible, and E350 sedan.

Here's the short version:

• E350: This is the entry point, and it gives you the E-Class experience at the lowest price, but the base 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder is described as underwhelming. It makes sense if you want the badge and the cabin first, but it is not the strongest value if you care about power.
• E450: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it brings the electrified inline-six, stronger output, and a quieter, more refined feel without jumping all the way to AMG pricing. If you want the sweet spot between comfort, performance, and everyday usability, this is the trim to target.
• AMG E53: Choose this if you want a sharper, faster E-Class with brisk acceleration, rear-biased AWD, and a more athletic personality. It adds serious performance without going as extreme as the V8 AMG model.
• AMG E63 S: This is the top performance choice, with a hand-built V8, 603 hp, and a much more aggressive chassis setup. It suits you if outright speed and exclusivity matter more than comfort or cost.

Some safety features are optional, and all other driver-assist features remain optional beyond the standard braking, attention, and blind-spot systems.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 838 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.87% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 76.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $35,857, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

The current average of $36,737 sits slightly below last year's $41,686.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit near-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the E-Class is holding at a lower but still substantial price point, so condition and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to list it.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

The 2021 E-Class sedan and wagon earn five-star overall ratings from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal, side, and rollover testing, though the driver's side received a four-star frontal crash rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard. Other driver-assistance features are optional, so you should confirm the exact safety equipment on any used example you’re considering.

The coupe and cabriolet were not tested by IIHS or NHTSA, so you should be especially careful to verify their equipment and condition if you’re shopping those body styles.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.87% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a mid-cycle update for the infotainment system, engines, and exterior styling.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $30,283, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $36,737 average.
• It offers a stylish, tech-forward luxury experience with an effortless demeanor.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $39,167, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $36,737 average.
• It keeps the refreshed formula and adds standard automatic high-beam headlights.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of updated tech, broad powertrain choice, and current-market pricing, the 2021 is the best place to start. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the better value play; if you want a slightly newer example and don’t mind paying more, the 2022 is the cleaner follow-up.
