How much does the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?

Prices have softened 9.57% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,299 listings available, which suggests you have a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, luxurious interior, powerful performance, advanced features, and elegant styling. That lines up with the overview’s focus on refinement and a premium experience, especially if you want a midsize luxury car that feels more special than practical. With 36.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centered on the smooth ride, luxurious interior, powerful performance, advanced features, and elegant styling. The expert summary reinforces that sense of confidence by emphasizing how rewarding the car is to own and how well it delivers on its luxury mission. At the same time, used buyers should plan for higher ownership costs and inspect carefully for wear-and-tear issues, especially once warranty coverage is no longer in play.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on signs of past bodywork, uneven panel gaps, interior wear, and any evidence that expensive electronics or comfort features are not working as intended. Because this is a luxury model, condition matters as much as mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is defined by a VIP-lounge feel, with inlaid wood, large high-res screens, bright LED mood lighting in 64 colors, and two-tone leather combinations. The Luxury Line changes the exterior look with a classic thin-lined grille and standing hood ornament, while the coupe uses a more sport-oriented appearance.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 241 horsepower, while the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 makes 329 horsepower and is described as the better choice. The transmission is a 9-speed automatic, and the car can feel relaxed in Comfort mode but more responsive in Sport and Sport+.
• Safety package: Mercedes calls its suite “Car-to-X Communication,” and the car can also brake automatically, recognize crossing traffic and people, and adjust to changing speed limits with adaptive cruise control. Some features are optional, and many are tied to expensive packages.
• Infotainment: The E-Class includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a built-in web browser, a head-up display, and configurable digital instrument displays. The system also supports voice inputs and multiple screen layouts.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter engine is EPA-rated at 22 mpg city and 30 highway in rear-wheel-drive form, while the V6 coupe is rated at 20/26. The review also notes 29 mpg on a highway-heavy drive in the rear-wheel-drive four-cylinder model and 23 mpg over 600 miles in the V6 coupe.

Which 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E300 sedan, E300 4Matic sedan, E400 coupe, E400 4Matic wagon.

Here's the short version:

• E300 sedan: This is the entry point and the most accessible way into the E-Class experience. It gives you the core luxury feel, the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, and the same upscale cabin design, but the review makes clear that the four-cylinder is the least satisfying powertrain in the lineup.
• E300 4Matic sedan: This adds all-wheel drive for buyers who want extra traction, but it keeps the same basic engine and character as the rear-wheel-drive sedan. It makes sense if you need AWD, though it is not the standout value pick.
• E400 coupe: This is the best-value choice if you want the strongest overall balance of performance and luxury. The 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 is described as the best engine, and the coupe body adds a more distinctive look and a more composed feel.
• E400 4Matic wagon: This is the most versatile option if you want the wagon body style and all-wheel drive. It suits buyers who care more about utility and traction than getting the lowest price.

Many of the safety and semi-autonomous features are locked into the expensive Premium 3 package, so you should check equipment carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,299 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.57% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,794, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

The current average of $22,794 sits slightly below last year's $25,207.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that this model’s value is being shaped by its luxury-car depreciation curve, not by scarcity alone. Well-kept examples should still attract interest because the E-Class has strong appeal among shoppers who want a premium used sedan.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a five-star overall rating and five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and for rollover vulnerability from NHTSA, and it is rated a Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mercedes includes Car-to-X Communication, which can send safety alerts about slippery roads and poor weather to other E-Class drivers nearby. The car can also detect obstacles, aid steering around an optimum path, automatically brake for crossing traffic and pedestrians, and adjust speed with adaptive cruise control. Some of these features are optional, and many are bundled into expensive packages.

Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.57% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary says you get what you pay for, with the reward being one of the finest luxury cars on the face of the planet.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest blend of luxury, technology, and safety, the 2018 E-Class is the right direction to go. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, you may want to compare it with nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained example rather than the newest badge.

How does the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class compare to the 2018 BMW 5 Series?

Our experts score the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 8/10 and the 2018 BMW 5 Series 8.3/10. The BMW has the edge on expert score and fuel economy, while the Mercedes counters with a lower average used price and a stronger emphasis on luxury feel and safety. If you want the more indulgent cabin and a richer ownership experience, the E-Class is compelling; if you want the slightly stronger overall expert verdict and hybrid efficiency, the 5 Series is the sharper pick.
