Used 2021 Chevrolet Traverse for Sale near Illinois

How much does the 2021 Chevrolet Traverse cost?

Prices have softened 13.67% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,066 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Traverse a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 5/5, and our experts give it 6.7/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, the power it delivers, and the overall driving experience. The user feedback also points to impressive features and good value for money, while noting that the feature set can feel a bit overwhelming for some drivers.

That lines up with the Traverse’s role as a three-row family hauler: it’s aimed at you if you want room and everyday usability more than flash. The trade-offs are a poor handling feel and interior materials that can seem cheap, along with poor value for money in a crowded segment.

Good and great deals make up 33.3% of listings, so there’s still room to shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Traverse reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable ownership experience, with repeated praise for the Traverse’s spaciousness, power, and overall driving experience. That kind of owner confidence usually matters most when you’re shopping used, because it suggests the vehicle is delivering the day-to-day experience buyers expected.

The expert evaluation also describes the Traverse as a competent family SUV that can be counted on for space and comfort, even if it isn’t the most polished choice in the class. Chevy’s warranty coverage is average for the segment, so long-term ownership risk comes down more to condition, maintenance history, and how the vehicle was used.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Traverse?

At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with multiple owners. Focus on signs of body repair, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any evidence that the vehicle was used hard or maintained inconsistently.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The L starts with 18-inch wheels, while higher trims can add 20-inch wheels, blacked-out or chrome exterior details, and an optional Dual SkyScape two-panel sunroof. The base trim is the one most likely to feel light on features, so compare equipment carefully before you buy.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.6-liter V6 with 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic. It’s the only engine offered, and the setup is tuned more for relaxed highway use than sharp response.
• Safety package: The Traverse includes available driver-assistance features such as automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control is only available on the High Country trim, so lower trims miss out on that feature.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. Higher trims can add an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, 4G-LTE WiFi hotspot, and a Bose 10-speaker audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Traverse gets 21 mpg combined, with 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway in FWD form, and 20 mpg combined, with 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway with AWD.

Which 2021 Chevrolet Traverse trim should I buy?

The 2021 Chevrolet Traverse is offered in 7 trim levels: L, LS, LT Cloth, LT Leather, RS, Premier, and High Country.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, and it makes the most sense if you want the Traverse’s space and V6 power at the lowest price. It gets the basics, but you’ll want to compare it carefully against the next trim up if you care about convenience and appearance upgrades.
• LS: This is the first step up and a better starting point for many shoppers because it should feel less bare-bones than the L while staying relatively accessible. If you want the best value, this is the trim to examine first.
• LT Cloth: This trim is the practical middle ground if you want more comfort and equipment without jumping too far up the price ladder. It’s a sensible choice for families who want a nicer daily experience without chasing luxury touches.
• LT Leather: This is the better pick if you want a more upscale cabin feel and are willing to pay for it. It suits you if interior comfort matters more than keeping the purchase price as low as possible.
• RS: The RS adds blacked-out styling and was the test vehicle used in the expert review, which makes it the best fit if you want a sportier look without changing the Traverse’s core mission. It also shows how the higher trims can feel more polished inside.
• Premier: This is the trim to consider if you want a more fully equipped Traverse with more convenience features. It’s a strong choice for shoppers who plan to keep the vehicle a while and want a richer feature set.
• High Country: This is the top trim, and it’s the one to choose if you want the most equipment, including the available adaptive cruise control. It’s the best fit if you want the most complete Traverse experience and don’t mind paying for it.

Chevy’s safety tech is less standard than what you’ll find on some rivals, and adaptive cruise control is only standard on the High Country.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Traverse?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,066 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.67% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,806, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Traverse's resale value?

The current average of $20,806 sits slightly below last year's $24,100.

That price drop suggests the Traverse has become more affordable for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer market than they would have a year ago. If you buy at today’s average or below, you may have less room for appreciation, so condition and trim choice matter more for protecting value.

The good news is that the Traverse still has a clear audience: families who want space, comfort, and a straightforward three-row layout. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Traverse safe?

The 2021 Chevrolet Traverse earns Good ratings from IIHS in all crash tests and a Superior rating for front-crash prevention tech. It also earns five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in side-impact tests.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevy offers a named driver-assistance suite through its available safety tech, including automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control is only available on the High Country trim, so lower trims miss out on that feature.

One caveat is that headlight performance varies by trim, with IIHS ratings ranging from Acceptable to Poor. That means you should pay close attention to the specific trim’s lighting setup if nighttime driving matters to you.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Traverse or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.67% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 keeps the current-generation Traverse fresh enough while still offering the roomy, comfortable family focus buyers want.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $24,163, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $20,806 average.
• It adds a clearer case for waiting if you want the updated model-year changes.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2021 is the stronger buy because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for the next model year, the 2022 is the secondary path for buyers who want to wait for the newer version.
