Is the 2020 Lexus RX a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Lexus RX earns a 4.88/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

The trade-offs are familiar: the technology can be unintuitive, and some drivers note touchpad functionality issues and cabin noise at moderate speeds. Even so, the RX’s relaxed character and strong comfort focus make it a compelling choice for shoppers who value refinement over complexity.

With 38.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s meaningful room to find a competitive example.

Drivers describe the RX as reliable and dependable, with a reputation for trouble-free ownership and long-term confidence. The expert evaluation also points to Lexus’ tradition of reliability and says that tradition extends to the RX.

The RX’s powertrain is described as smooth and easy to live with, which supports the impression of dependable day-to-day use. Lexus also includes a three-year subscription to Lexus Enform Safety Connect and a 10-year subscription to Enform Service Connect.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the vehicle’s electronics and connected services have aged well and still function as expected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Lexus RX?

At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, interior wear, and any evidence that the technology or driver-assistance systems are not working properly.

Pay extra attention to how the infotainment system responds, since the RX’s tech is a known weak point. It’s also smart to confirm that the cabin is quiet at speed and that the ride feels composed, since those are core strengths you want to preserve.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The RX lineup includes standard two-row and three-row versions, with the three-row model carrying the RX-L name. The F Sport appearance package adds a unique steering wheel and shift knob, aluminum pedals, bumpers, grille, badges, front seats, meter, aluminum ornamentation, and 20-inch wheels, along with other appearance and comfort upgrades.
• Powertrain: The RX 350 uses a 3.5-liter V6 with an eight-speed automatic and makes 295 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. The RX 350L is slightly lower at 290 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque. Hybrid RX models pair the V6 with an electric motor for 308 horsepower, and the RX 450hL uses a different hybrid setup with 259 horsepower from the gasoline engine and 165 horsepower from the electric motor.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 includes adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, daytime bicyclist detection, low-light pedestrian detection, road-sign assist, and lane-tracing assist. Blind-spot monitoring is available, and the rearview camera is standard.
• Infotainment: The RX comes with an 8.0-inch display, an available 12.3-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Spotify, Pandora, Google Maps, Waze, Apple Music, Apple Maps, WhatsApp compatibility, and six USB ports.
• Fuel efficiency: The RX 350 achieves 23 mpg combined. The RX 350L and RX 350 AWD get 22 mpg combined, while the RX 350L AWD gets 21 mpg combined. The RX 450h AWD gets 30 mpg combined, and the RX 450hL gets 29 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Lexus RX trim should I buy?

The 2020 Lexus RX is offered in 4 trim levels: RX 350, RX 350L, RX 450h, RX 450hL.

Here's the short version:

• RX 350: This is the best-value choice if you want the core RX experience at the lowest entry point. You get the smooth 3.5-liter V6, the eight-speed automatic, strong comfort, and the standard safety and infotainment equipment that make the RX easy to live with.
• RX 350L: Choose this if you want the extra space of the three-row version and can accept the higher price. It suits buyers who need more seating flexibility without moving into the hybrid lineup.
• RX 450h: This is the pick if fuel economy matters most. It adds hybrid efficiency and the strongest mpg figure in the lineup, while still delivering the RX’s comfort-first character.
• RX 450hL: Go here if you want the three-row hybrid setup and are willing to pay for it. It’s the most specialized version, aimed at buyers who want efficiency and extra seating in one package.

Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring is available.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Lexus RX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,379 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.41% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $32,454, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Lexus RX's resale value?

The current average of $32,883 sits slightly below last year's $33,354.

That softer pricing suggests the RX is still in demand, but buyers have a bit more leverage than they did a year ago. For a future seller, that means condition, mileage, and service history will matter even more when it comes time to list the vehicle.

The RX’s strong comfort reputation and broad appeal should help it remain attractive to used shoppers. Models that present well and show clear maintenance history are likely to hold buyer interest better than neglected examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Lexus RX safe?

The Lexus RX earns good safety ratings from both IIHS and NHTSA crash tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 includes adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, daytime bicyclist detection, low-light pedestrian detection, road-sign assist, and lane-tracing assist. A rearview camera is standard, and blind-spot monitoring is available.

One caveat is that Lexus Enform Safety Connect did not always connect reliably during testing, so you should verify that any connected-safety features work properly on a used example.

Should I buy a 2020 Lexus RX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds updated styling, standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and expanded safety tech.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $35,354, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $32,883 average.
• It adds new standard safety systems.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the better value if you want the RX’s comfort, reliability, and strong feature set without paying more for a newer model year. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2020 is the smarter buy; if you want the newer-year safety updates and don’t mind paying more, the 2021 is worth a look.
