How much does the 2020 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have softened 4.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,221 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Ford Mustang earns a 4.73/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its power, fun driving experience, and stylish looks, and they also call out the comfort of the seats and the range of engine choices. On the downside, some reviewers mention that the automatic transmission could be smoother and that the price can feel high for some shoppers.

That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a nostalgic, performance-focused pony car that blends heritage with modern appeal rather than everyday practicality. It’s a strong fit if you want character and driving enjoyment more than utility.

With 31.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter to enthusiasts: strong power delivery, enjoyable driving manners, and a sense that the car delivers what buyers expect over time. The review summary also emphasizes that many owners are happy with the Mustang’s overall ownership experience.

The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by highlighting the car’s broad performance range and its ability to feel composed in daily driving while still delivering serious pace when you want it. The cost-effectiveness discussion also frames the car as a strong value relative to its performance.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic satisfaction and more about choosing a well-kept example that hasn’t been abused or neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Mustang?

At 67.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of wear that can reveal how the car was used. Because this model is performance-oriented, a careful test drive matters as much as the paperwork.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Bullitt stands out with Dark Highland Green paint, unique green stitching, a serialized plaque, a cue-ball shifter knob, and a cleaner, more classic appearance. It also carries a higher price, and the interior plastics can feel less acceptable at that level.
• Powertrain: The lineup spans a 310-horsepower turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder, a 460-horsepower 5.0-liter V8, a 526-horsepower 5.2-liter V8 in the Shelby GT350 and GT350R, and a 760-horsepower supercharged 5.2-liter V8 in the Shelby GT500. The Bullitt uses a 5.0-liter V8 with 480 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a reversing camera, MyKey, and 911 Assist. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is available with the Electronics Package, and advanced driver-assistance features are otherwise limited.
• Infotainment: The car uses a recessed 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 3, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and available 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio. The system is functional, but its age shows in slower response.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoBoost returns 21 mpg city, 31 highway, and 25 combined. The Bullitt returns 14 mpg city, 23 highway, and 17 combined. The Shelby GT500 returns 12/18/14.

Which 2020 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford Mustang is offered in 1 trim level: Bullitt.

Here's the short version:

The Bullitt is the standout choice if you want the Mustang’s nostalgic styling and stronger V8 character in one package. It adds the special-edition look, unique cabin details, and a 480-horsepower version of the 5.0-liter V8, making it the most distinctive version described here. It suits you best if you value character and performance over bargain pricing.

The safety package is limited, with blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning available only through the Electronics Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Mustang?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,221 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.06% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,008, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $25,683 sits slightly below last year's $26,771.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, which can also mean future sellers may need to stay competitive on price. If you buy well now, you may have less downside pressure than someone who paid closer to the higher end of the range.

The year-round spread also shows that condition and equipment still matter, so a clean, well-optioned example should hold up better than a rough one. Strong enthusiast demand can help support values, especially for desirable versions.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang safe?

The Mustang gets good crash-test ratings, for the most part, with a Good rating from IIHS in most crashworthiness tests and an Acceptable rating for driver protection in a small overlap frontal-impact collision. In testing performed by NHTSA, the Mustang gets five-star ratings in every test, including for rollover resistance.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera, MyKey, and 911 Assist. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is available with the Electronics Package, but advanced driver-assistance features are otherwise limited.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The Bullitt special edition gives this year a nostalgic, performance-focused character.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,461, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $25,683 average.
• It adds the Mach 1 trim.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and are focused on the classic Mustang experience, the 2020 is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year and the added Mach 1 option, the 2021 is the better path. For most price-sensitive shoppers, the 2020 offers the stronger balance of character, performance, and market value.
