Is the 2020 Dodge Charger a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Dodge Charger earns a 4.9/5 user rating, and experts rate it 8.5/10 overall. The model scores 9/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its powerful performance, eye-catching design, smooth ride and handling, and spaciousness for families. The Charger’s use case is especially appealing if you want a practical sedan with more attitude than most, since it pairs four doors and five-passenger seating with a performance-focused personality.

The main trade-offs are that lower trims can feel underwhelming compared with the higher-performance versions, and some shoppers may wish for more luxury features. Even so, 24.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Dodge Charger reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with strong performance and comfort that owners can count on over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Charger is easy to live with and useful as a daily driver, thanks to its roomy cabin and practical sedan layout.

The ownership risk for used buyers is less about basic durability and more about choosing a well-kept example, since condition and maintenance history matter a lot on a performance-oriented sedan.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Dodge Charger?

At 55.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage or lower-priced example. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim you want. Because advanced safety features are not standard, it is worth checking exactly which driver-assistance items are included on the specific car you are considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SXT comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, remote start, push-button start, power-adjustable front seats, rear parking sensors, and a 7-inch touchscreen, while the GT adds 20-inch wheels, a more pronounced lower front spoiler, a rear trunk lip spoiler, a hood scoop, dual-zone climate control, a WiFi hot spot, HD radio, and an 8.4-inch screen. The GT is the better value if you want more equipment without jumping into the V8 trims.
• Powertrain: The SXT and GT use a 3.6-liter V6, with 292 horsepower in the SXT and 300 horsepower in the GT, and AWD is available on both. Higher trims move to V8 power, with the R/T using a 5.7-liter Hemi and the Scat Pack and Hellcat variants pushing performance much further.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, and rear parking sensors. Available driver-assistance features include forward-collision avoidance with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
• Infotainment: The SXT uses a 7-inch touchscreen, while other trims get an 8.4-inch screen. The system includes standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Bluetooth and USB connectivity, and it supports available HD radio and available satellite radio.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version returns 19 mpg city, 30 highway, 23 combined, while AWD drops that to 18 mpg city, 27 highway, 21 combined. The R/T returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined, and the least efficient version returns 12 mpg city, 21 highway, 15 combined.

Which 2020 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?

The 2020 Dodge Charger is offered in 4 trim levels: SXT, GT, R/T, and Hellcat.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Charger’s core appeal with a 7-inch touchscreen, remote start, push-button start, power-adjustable front seats, and rear parking sensors. It makes sense if you want the least expensive way into the lineup and care more about the car’s style and space than extra features.
• GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds 20-inch wheels, a hood scoop, dual-zone climate control, a WiFi hot spot, HD radio, and the larger 8.4-inch screen. It also keeps the V6 formula, so you get more equipment without moving into the higher-cost performance trims.
• R/T: This trim is for you if you want the V8 experience, since it adds the 5.7-liter Hemi, upgraded performance suspension, and active exhaust. It is the right choice if performance matters more than value or fuel economy.
• Hellcat: This is the top-end choice for buyers who want the most extreme version of the Charger, with the largest engine in the lineup, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, blind-spot monitoring, and the widebody kit. It is the most specialized and expensive path in the lineup.

Advanced safety features are not standard, so check the equipment list carefully on any trim you consider.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Dodge Charger?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 24.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,384 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.38% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,703, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Dodge Charger's resale value?

The current average of $22,964 sits slightly below last year's $24,530.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper near-term resale gains if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the current pricing trend means you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than average, especially if they are accident-free and properly maintained.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Dodge Charger safe?

The Charger’s crash prevention technology earned the highest score of Superior in IIHS testing.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, and rear parking sensors. Available driver-assistance features include forward-collision avoidance with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

A key caveat is that many of these features are optional rather than standard, so you should verify the exact safety equipment on any used example you consider.

Should I buy a 2020 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 24.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 model balances sedan practicality with a performance-focused personality.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $26,193, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,964 average.
• It adds a new track-ready variant that pushes the Hellcat V8 further.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter starting point because prices are softer and inventory is healthy. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model-year update and a more extreme performance option, the 2021 is the path to consider.
