Summary
With 283 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,560.00, 29.7% of 2019 Toyota Priuses for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Toyota Prius 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2019 Toyota Prius stands out as a practical hybrid that covers a lot of the basics well. It is described as reliable, efficient, affordable, practical, and safe, and it is also noted as decent to drive. That combination makes it appealing to shoppers who want a car that is easy to live with and strong on value, especially since fuel efficiency is one of its clear strengths.
Toyota also made several changes for 2019, including toning down the design, revising the trim-level strategy, and adding a new electric all-wheel-drive option. Those updates give the Prius a broader appeal than just its efficiency alone. At the same time, its styling remains a drawback, and the technology is described as outdated, so the Prius still asks buyers to accept some compromises in exchange for its everyday usefulness and gas-saving ability.

The 2019 Prius is an excellent car. Great mileage and a very comfortable ride. In our Prius XLE, we get about 52 mpg. We have been driving the Toyota Prius brand for over 5 years. Great choice. Lots of features but the sound system is excellent and we can run Youtube and Spotify through the car as well as all phone calls.

Great mileage and surprisingly has power and acceleration if Normal or Power mode is selected. The Eco mode sustains well and for cruising on highway or city is sufficient! Very Happy

How much does the 2019 Toyota Prius cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $19,785 |
| Year-Round Low | $17,991.30 |
| Year-Round High | $19,751.32 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,429 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +1.84% |
Prices are up 1.84% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 311 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of shopping room. If you find a listing below $17,991.30, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2019 Toyota Prius a good car?
Yes — the 2019 Toyota Prius earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its fuel economy, quiet cabin, reliability, and comfort for daily driving. The overview also frames it as practical and easy to live with, which matches the recurring theme of strong value and low running costs. The main trade-offs are its polarizing styling and outdated technology, and the expert notes that the design hurts sales more than it helps.
With that mix, the Prius makes the most sense if you want a no-drama commuter that prioritizes savings and everyday usefulness over flash. It also shows 28.9% good or great deals, so there are still some attractive listings in the market.
Is the 2019 Toyota Prius reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to reliability, trouble-free ownership, and confidence over the long haul, while the expert cost-effectiveness commentary says the Prius has historically proven reliable and trouble-free. That same section also reinforces its practical ownership case by tying reliability to low operating costs and strong value.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core hybrid concept and more about finding a well-kept example with clean maintenance history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota Prius?
At 59.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because the Prius is valued for efficiency and practicality, condition matters a lot: a clean, well-maintained example is more likely to deliver the ownership experience you want. Pay extra attention to any evidence of collision repair, since accident history can affect both confidence and resale appeal.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup ranges from L Eco to Limited, and the base trim is the most stripped-down choice. Higher trims add more convenience and tech, while the Limited stands apart with the most upscale equipment.
- Powertrain: A 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine works with an electric motor for 121 horsepower. The optional electric AWD system adds a rear motor for extra traction at low speeds and in slippery conditions, but it also reduces fuel economy.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. LE trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors with parking assist.
- Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and a CD player, while the Limited gets an 11.6-inch split-screen display with navigation, Entune App Suite, a JBL sound system, satellite radio, and Safety Connect. Neither system includes Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: A standard front-drive Prius gets 52 mpg in combined driving, or 56 mpg in L Eco trim. The AWD-e version gets 50 mpg.
Which 2019 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?
The 2019 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: L Eco, LE, XLE, Limited.
Here's the short version:
- L Eco: This is the efficiency-first choice, and it makes the most sense if your top priority is maximizing fuel savings at the lowest entry price.
- LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds useful safety tech like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
- XLE: This trim is the better pick if you want a more upscale daily driver, especially if you value added comfort and convenience over the lowest possible price.
- Limited: This is the most fully equipped version, with the biggest infotainment upgrade and the most premium-feeling feature set.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard on every trim, while LE adds extra driver-assistance features and Limited gets the most advanced infotainment and Safety Connect.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota Prius?
This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you should shop carefully and compare listings.
- Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 311 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.84% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 59.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,991.30, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Toyota Prius's resale value?
The current average of $19,785 sits slightly above last year's $19,429.
That upward move suggests the Prius is holding value reasonably well for a used hybrid, especially given its reputation for efficiency and low running costs. If you buy well and keep the car in good condition, you should have a decent chance of preserving value over time. The market also appears to reward the Prius’s practical strengths, which helps support future demand.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Toyota Prius safe?
The Prius gets a 5-star rating from NHTSA, though front passenger protection in a frontal-impact crash measures 4 stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it a Top Safety Pick rating, with small overlap front passenger frontal impact protection rated as Acceptable instead of Good.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard on every Prius and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. LE trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors with parking assist, while Limited also gets Safety Connect services. The main caveat is the IIHS small-overlap front passenger result, which is weaker than the rest of the safety picture.
Should I buy a 2019 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.84% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Toyota revised the trim strategy and added an electric all-wheel-drive option.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $21,548, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $19,785 average.
- It adds broader hybrid appeal with more emphasis on versatility and technology.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2019 is the smarter buy because it delivers the Prius formula at a lower average price. If you can spend more and want the next model year’s broader appeal, the 2020 is worth a look, but price-sensitive buyers should stay focused on the 2019.
