CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback
overall

Summary
With 201 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,513.00, 26.4% of 2019 Toyota Corollas Hatchbacks for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
70.6% of 2019 Corolla Hatchback models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
With the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback, Toyota takes a big leap forward in small-car style and sophistication. It stands out as a more stylish, more sophisticated, and better-to-drive hatchback, and it also offers excellent value for money along with premium interior materials. Those strengths make it appealing to buyers who want a compact car that feels a little more upscale than its price might suggest.
The tradeoffs are just as clear. The 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback is described as having fairly pedestrian performance, a cramped back seat, and not much cargo space. Owner feedback lines up with that basic picture, while also pointing to a smooth ride, great fuel economy, easy maneuverability, and a fun driving experience. For shoppers who prioritize efficiency, city-friendly size, and a polished cabin over outright space or speed, that combination gives the Corolla Hatchback a distinctive appeal.

So far, I really like it. It reminds me of two of my previous vehicles: the Honda Fit and the Toyota Prius V, which are both excellent vehicles.

Amazing Car, easy and comfortable to drive. Love it

Rating is for SE Upgrade Edition (Canadian) (4.5 stars so I rounded up) We bought this car (used) as a commuter for me, and it was a downgrade from our main / previous car, a BMW. So there was a bit of a learning curve (nowhere near the zip, altogether different brakes) but the majority of cars Ive driven have been Toyota sedans / hatchbacks, so it felt very similar to those. Pluses: It is so compact and easy to park - I am a nervous driver, but find I am able to park in tight lots without too much stress. Fun to drive at a low price point (not just up front, but gas - it sips regular & maintenance is very reasonable). Zippy enough for my husband, who is more of a car guy. Fits me well (Im 57) and feels good when driving. My much larger husband (62, muscular build) fits and can drive it comfortably. SE Upgrade version has heated steering wheel (yay) and the nicer wheels. This model also has heated seats, backup camera, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise, lane departure warning, emergency braking, and probably some features Ive forgotten. Minuses: Very little cargo / passenger space. I took a road trip with 2 other people, and between us and our luggage, almost every available inch of the car was full (well, we didnt block the rear window). It may have 3 rear seats, but the passengers would all have to be quite small. It feels like less storage than our coupe BMW had. I have 2 family members with Honda Fits (2013 & 2016) and Fits have amazing cargo space in comparison. Not a lot of leg room for front passenger. There was a fuel pump recall, which the dealer took care of (but be aware and check the records). I find that it hesitates a little sometimes when trying to turn quickly from a stop or slow (like when trying to turn left or right when theres a gap in traffic). Im not sure if its just because the car is less powerful than our old one but Ive tried to change my driving techniques to make sure I look for larger gaps. Overall, this is not my dream car but it is the right car for me, and the car I can afford to drive and maintain at this time. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, inexpensive, fun vehicle.
2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback prices has changed over time.

| Year-Round High | $18,067.20 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,782 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −1.99% |
Prices have softened 1.99% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 201 listings available, which gives you a useful amount of inventory to compare. If you find a listing below $16,807.08, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating and 8/10 expert rating point to a model year that lands well with both owners and testers. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, great fuel economy, compact size, and easy maneuverability. They also like the tech features and thoughtful design, and many describe the driving experience as fun.
The trade-offs are familiar: some drivers want more cargo room and passenger space, and performance can feel hesitant at times. That lines up with the overview, which frames this hatchback as a stylish, efficient, city-friendly choice rather than a space-first or speed-first one.
With 27.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a smooth ride, great fuel economy, and a compact package that makes the car easy to live with over time.
The expert evaluation adds that Toyota’s longstanding reputation for durability supports the ownership case, and the powertrain is described as operating transparently in normal use. The first two years of ownership also include free scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about whether the specific car has been maintained well and used gently enough to avoid compounding its space and drivability compromises.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback?
At 69.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or shows signs of heavy urban use. Pay close attention to cabin wear, cargo-area condition, and whether the car’s features and driver-assistance systems work as expected. Because this model is praised for efficiency and maneuverability more than space, make sure the specific car still fits your daily needs.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Toyota keeps it simple with SE and XSE trim. The XSE adds more technology and a more upscale feel, while the base setup is more straightforward.
- Powertrain: A naturally aspirated 2.0-liter 4-cylinder is paired with a 6-speed manual, and a Dynamic Shift CVT is available if you want an automatic. The CVT is tuned to feel more traditional and includes a manual-shift mode.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on every 2019 Corolla Hatchback. It includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. Blind-spot warning is available, but it does not include rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, along with Apple CarPlay. Android Auto is not included. Higher versions add SiriusXM, HD Radio, and more connected services, while the top setup adds dynamic navigation and a premium JBL sound system.
- Fuel efficiency: The expert test loop returned no better than 29.2 mpg, versus an EPA combined rating of 33 mpg. The owner feedback also highlights great fuel economy.
Which 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback trim should I buy?
The 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback is offered in 2 trim levels: SE and XSE.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SE gives you the core Corolla Hatchback experience, but you give up some of the richer tech and upscale touches that make the car feel more premium.
- Premium/top trim: The XSE is the better pick if you want the more polished cabin, more technology, and the stronger overall sense of value that comes through in the expert review.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, and the CVT is the path to maximum adaptive cruise-control capability.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.
- Deal availability: 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 201 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.99% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $16,807.08, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback's resale value?
The current average of $17,428 sits slightly below last year's $17,782.
That kind of softening suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price carefully to stay competitive. The current inventory mix shows enough demand to support the model, but not enough scarcity to push prices sharply higher. If you buy well now and keep the car in strong condition, you should be in a reasonable position when it comes time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback safe?
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on every 2019 Corolla Hatchback, and it includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. The adaptive cruise system is fairly refined, but the lane-assist features can occasionally issue false alerts or intervene in ways you may want to override. Blind-spot warning is available, though it does not include rear cross-traffic alert, so the standard reversing camera matters.
Should I buy a 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.99% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2019 stands out for being more stylish, more sophisticated, and better to drive than the Corolla iM it replaces.
The bottom line: If you want this hatchback’s blend of value, efficiency, and upscale feel, the 2019 is a strong year to target. If your priority is finding the lowest possible price, you can also compare nearby model years and focus on whichever one gives you the best combination of condition, equipment, and asking price.
