The Toyota Corolla Hatchback is a part of the 12th-generation Corolla lineup. It was introduced for the 2019 model year, a full year ahead of its sedan counterpart. The Corolla Hatch sits in the compact car segment, and its primary competitors are the Honda Civic Hatchback, the Mazda3 Hatchback, the Subaru Impreza, and the Kia K4 Hatchback. The 2027 Toyota Corolla Hatchback has two trims: SE and XSE.

What’s New for the 2027 Toyota Corolla Hatchback
The last significant refresh for the Corolla Hatchback was in 2023, and it included revised exterior styling, new LED headlights and daytime running lights, the addition of Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, a standard 8-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and enhanced sport mode tuning. The design remains the same for 2027, but the SE trim gets a new standard 7-inch digital gauge cluster, and the new SE Premium Package offers a 12.3-inch digital cluster as well as a 10.5-inch infotainment screen. On the XSE, the 12.3-inch cluster and 10.5-inch infotainment screen are now standard. Additional changes include new Toyota Genuine accessory 18-inch gloss-white alloy wheels and new Blueprint and Inked exterior paint options.
Design
The Corolla Hatchback has a sporty and stout stance with a lot of hard horizontal lines that make it look more modern than its sedan counterpart. While it has a trapezoidal Toyota grille, it also has a fairly unique look within the manufacturer's lineup. Standard wheels on the SE are 16-inches, and the XSE upgrades to 18-inch gloss graphite alloys. While there aren’t any appearance packages available for the 2027 Corolla Hatch, the SE and XSE trims offer a two-tone paint treatment with an “Inked” (i.e. black) roof.
Powertrain
The 2027 Corolla Hatch is fitted with a 169-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It is only available with front-wheel drive and has a dynamic-shift continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a physical launch gear. The Corolla Hatch has enhanced sport-mode tuning as well as standard paddle shifters on both trims. The manual transmission option for the hatchback was dropped during the 2023 refresh. Fuel economy depends on trim, as the SE gets 32 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway, with the XSE getting 30 mpg and 38 mpg respectively.

Interior
The Corolla Hatchback can seat five, but with 29.9 inches of rear legroom, those passengers will have to be on the petite side of the spectrum. One benefit of the hatch over the sedan is better cargo space, with 17.8 cubic feet available behind the second row, and the rear seats fold down for extra flexibility. Standard seating surfaces are cloth on the SE and synthetic leather with the XSE. There is no moonroof available on the hatchback, but there is with the sedan.
Technology
The Corolla Hatchback offers a lot of standard technology for a vehicle that costs about $26,000. The SE is equipped with an 8-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, LED headlights and taillights, two front and two rear USB-C ports, and a 7-inch digital gauge cluster. There's also a Service, Safety, and Remote Connect system with a five-year trial. Connected services such as cloud-based navigation, destination assistant, and a Wi-Fi hotspot are available for a subscription fee. Other available tech features include a 10.5-inch infotainment screen, dual automatic climate controls, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.
