What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Ford F-150?

At 73.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage truck or one with towing use. Focus on condition details that matter in a full-size pickup: cabin wear, evidence of hard work, and whether the equipment level matches the trim you’re paying for. If you want the best odds of a clean purchase, compare accident history against asking price and don’t skip a close look at the truck’s features and functionality.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is a true work truck with a reversing camera, AM/FM radio, a 4.2-inch audio-system screen, and dynamic hitch assist, while the XLT adds power windows and locks plus an 8-inch Sync 3 screen. Higher trims bring more comfort and luxury, and the Limited adds a 360-degree camera system as standard.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 3.3-liter V6, a 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, a 5.0-liter V8, and a 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V6. The diesel is described as smooth, quiet, and capable of up to 11,400 pounds of towing when properly equipped.
• Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, and rear cross-traffic alert. The 360-degree camera system is standard on the Limited and optional on the rest of the lineup.
• Infotainment: The base XL uses a 4.2-inch screen with Bluetooth, while XLT and higher trims get Sync 3 with an 8-inch touchscreen. Sync 3 supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and available Wi-Fi hotspot and premium audio add more convenience.
• Fuel efficiency: The diesel returns 22 mpg city, 30 highway, and 25 combined with rear-wheel drive, or 20 city, 25 highway, and 22 combined with 4WD. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost returns 20 mpg city, 26 highway, and 22 combined with RWD.

Which 2019 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Ford F-150 is offered in 7 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most basic work-focused choice, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-frills path into the lineup. You get the essentials, but the cabin and tech are clearly stripped down compared with the higher trims.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds power windows and locks plus the larger 8-inch Sync 3 screen. If you want a more livable daily driver without jumping deep into luxury pricing, this is the trim to target.
• Lariat: This trim steps up to a leather interior, heated and ventilated front seats, and satellite radio. It suits you if comfort matters more and you want a more upscale cabin without going all the way to the luxury end.
• King Ranch: This trim leans into premium character with its Camel Back upholstery option and distinctive interior details. It’s a strong fit if you want a luxury-truck feel with a more distinctive personality.
• Platinum: This trim adds a unique wood-panel interior and power-deploying running boards. It’s the right move if you want a more polished, upscale truck with extra convenience.
• Raptor: This is the full-fledged off-road performance truck, with a wide-body kit, added underbody armor, and specially designed Fox Racing Shox. Choose it if you want the most specialized capability and character in the lineup.
• Limited: This is the ultimate luxury trim, with 22-inch polished aluminum wheels, a dual-panel moonroof, dual exhaust, and massaging seats. It’s the top pick if you want the most premium F-150 experience.

The Limited is also the only trim with the 360-degree camera system standard; on the rest of the lineup, it’s optional.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,682 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.93% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,796, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $25,802 sits slightly below last year's $27,724.

That softer pricing trend suggests the truck has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help limit further downside if you buy at the right price. For a future seller, that means your best protection is choosing a well-kept example with desirable equipment and a clean history. Trucks with broad appeal and strong feature content tend to stay easier to move when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Ford F-150 safe?

The 2019 Ford F-150 earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, and a reversing camera. The available driver-assistance suite includes blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, and rear cross-traffic alert. The 360-degree camera system is standard on the Limited and optional on the rest of the lineup, so lower trims may need more careful maneuvering support if you want that feature.

Should I buy a 2019 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.93% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the F-150 familiar and current with modest updates rather than a full redesign.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $23,627, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $25,802 average.
• It is a highly well-rounded pickup with standout towing and fuel economy.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $27,633, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $25,802 average.
• It adds a more accommodating modern interior and comfortable road manners.

The bottom line: If you want a proven full-size pickup with strong owner satisfaction and a broad mix of capability and comfort, the 2019 is the primary path to consider. If price matters most, the 2018 is the better value play; if you want a newer-feeling cabin and can spend more, the 2020 is worth a look.
