Is the 2018 Ford F-150 a good car?

33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Ford F-150 reliable?

Owner feedback repeatedly points to reliability, solid construction, and a truck that buyers feel they can count on. The expert test drive notes also emphasize that it delivers in nearly all areas and feels like one of the most well-rounded pickups available. On the ownership side, that combination suggests a truck built for long-term use rather than short-term novelty.

If you buy used, your main risk is paying too much for a truck that has been worked hard or not maintained carefully, so condition matters as much as reputation.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford F-150?

At 70.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has towing or off-road use in its past. Focus on wear items, signs of heavy use, and whether the equipment on the truck matches the trim level you expected. If you’re shopping higher trims, make sure the added features are functioning properly and that the truck’s condition supports the asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from the work-focused XL to the well-equipped Limited, with the XL offering little more than plastic bumpers, cloth seats, steel wheels, a reversing camera, and an auxiliary jack. The XLT adds power windows and locks, a USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, 17-inch aluminum wheels, and chrome bumpers. The Lariat adds leather-trimmed front seats, a 10-way power driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone electronic temperature control, SiriusXM satellite radio, Sync 3, an 8-inch trip computer, ambient lighting, and push-button start. The King Ranch adds unique wheels, unique leather bucket seats, a two-tone paint scheme, heated rear seats, a Bang & Olufsen premium stereo, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability. The Platinum adds a unique grille, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, wood interior accents, and voice-activated navigation. The Raptor is built for off-roading with a unique grille, wider body, amber lights, larger fender flares, and skid plates. The Limited adds body-colored bumpers, a satin chrome grille and door handles, 22-inch polished aluminum wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a power sliding rear window, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, and massaging front seats.
• Powertrain: The truck offers a 3.3-liter V6, a 2.7-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6, and a 5.0-liter V8. The base 3.3-liter V6 makes 290 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque and pairs with a 6-speed automatic. The other engines use a 10-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive and available 4WD are offered, and the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with the 10-speed automatic and RWD is the most efficient setup at 20 mpg city, 26 highway, and 22 combined.
• Safety package: Standard safety features include a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring system, traction control, and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags. The truck also comes standard with trailer sway control and is available with an integrated trailer brake controller and Pro Trailer Backup Assist. A 360-degree camera is standard on the Limited and available on the Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Raptor. Forward-collision warning and avoidance with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control are standard on the Limited and available on other models.
• Infotainment: The base XL has an AM/FM stereo with four speakers and an auxiliary audio input. The XLT adds basic Sync with Bluetooth connectivity. All other trims except the Raptor come standard with Sync 3, which uses an 8-inch color screen and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Sync 3 is optional on the XL, XLT, and Raptor. Wi-Fi hotspot capability is available, and FordPass adds connected features such as fuel-price lookup, parking help, and access to FordGuides.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient drivetrain configuration returns 20 mpg city, 26 highway, and 22 combined. The Raptor returns 15 mpg city, 18 highway, and 16 combined. The Limited with the V6 and 4WD returns 17 mpg city, 23 highway, and 19 combined.

Which 2018 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Ford F-150 is offered in 7 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the work-truck choice, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost entry point and can live without many comfort features. It gives you the basics, including a reversing camera and an auxiliary jack, but little else.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the everyday conveniences you’ll notice most, including power windows and locks, Bluetooth, a USB port, 17-inch aluminum wheels, and chrome bumpers. If you want a usable truck without jumping deep into luxury pricing, this is the trim to start with.
• Lariat: This is the sweet spot if you want a more polished cabin and stronger tech without going all the way to luxury-truck pricing. You get leather-trimmed front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, Sync 3, push-button start, and more comfort-focused equipment.
• King Ranch: This trim is for you if you want a more distinctive upscale feel, with unique leather bucket seats, a two-tone paint scheme, heated rear seats, a premium stereo, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
• Platinum: This is the style-forward luxury choice, adding a unique grille, polished 20-inch wheels, wood accents, and navigation.
• Raptor: Choose this if you want the off-road-focused model, with its wider body, skid plates, unique grille, and trail-ready hardware.
• Limited: This is the top-end comfort pick, with nearly every major option already included, plus a panoramic sunroof, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, and massaging front seats.

The Limited is the most fully equipped, but the Lariat is the trim most buyers should cross-shop first because it captures much of the useful comfort and tech without the steepest price jump. Safety features such as the 360-degree camera and advanced driver-assistance systems are standard on the Limited and available on other trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford F-150?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,679 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.79% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,485, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $23,627 sits slightly below last year's $24,557.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also suggests resale values have eased compared with the prior year. If you plan to sell later, the truck’s broad appeal should help support demand, especially because it remains attractive to shoppers who want capability, efficiency, and everyday usability in one package. Well-equipped trims and clean-condition examples should hold up better than trucks with heavy wear or accident history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.79% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It delivers best-in-class towing and fuel economy among full-size pickups.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $21,196, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $23,627 average.
• It adds a more serious off-road foundation and the return of the Raptor.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $25,802, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $23,627 average.
• It stays current with modest updates while keeping the same broad usefulness.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2018 if you want the strongest balance of capability, efficiency, and everyday usability. If price is your top priority, the 2017 can be the smarter value play, while the 2019 makes sense if you want a slightly newer truck and are willing to pay more.
