What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

At 68.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing, hauling, or off-road driving. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the trim and price you’re considering. If you’re shopping a higher-mileage example, pay extra attention to maintenance records and how the truck drives under load.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes WT, Custom, LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country, with Trail Boss versions of the Custom and LT adding a lifted off-road suspension and rugged appearance. The base WT is the most stripped-down choice, while the higher trims bring more comfort and equipment.
• Powertrain: Engine choices include a turbocharged 2.7-liter 4-cylinder, a turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder diesel, a 4.3-liter V6, two versions of a 5.3-liter V8, and a 6.2-liter V8. The 5.3-liter V8 with Dynamic Fuel Management and stop/start is described as strong, and the truck can tow up to 12,200 pounds depending on configuration.
• Safety package: The truck includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, pedestrian braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a following-distance monitor. The optional Safety Package adds front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring with lane-change alert, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Chevrolet Infotainment 3 includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and Teen Driver. A high-definition reversing camera with three views and guidance lines is available, and embedded navigation is limited to LTZ and High Country.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test truck was expected to get 17 mpg, but returned 13.8 mpg on one loop and never broke an average of 15 mpg on another drive.

Which 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered in 6 trim levels: WT, Custom, LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country.

Here's the short version:

• WT: This is the work-focused starting point, so it makes sense if you want the Silverado’s core capability without paying for extra comfort or convenience features.
• Custom: This is the first step up if you want a little more personality and equipment than the WT, while still keeping the truck relatively straightforward.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it sits in the middle of the lineup and balances equipment, comfort, and price more effectively than the higher trims.
• RST: Choose this if you want a more style-forward version of the Silverado with a sportier look.
• LTZ: This is the trim to target if you want more upscale features, and it’s one of the trims that can get embedded navigation.
• High Country: This is the luxury-leaning choice if you want the most premium Silverado experience in this lineup.

The Safety Package is worth seeking out if you want the added parking sensors, lane-change alert, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,676 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.89% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,175, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $26,175 sits slightly below last year's $28,728.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may temper near-term resale upside if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that trucks with stronger demand and cleaner histories should hold value better than rougher examples. Condition, mileage, and equipment mix will matter a lot when it’s time to trade or list the truck again.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.47/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.89% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.47/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brought a stiffer structure, stronger driving feel, and a broad mix of engines and trims.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $28,270, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $26,175 average.
• It adds a new 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline 6-cylinder engine and more available powertrains across trims.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2019 is the smarter starting point because pricing has eased and inventory is broad. If you’re willing to spend more for the 2020’s added powertrain flexibility and updates, that newer model is the better path for shoppers who want the latest changes.
