What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

At 68.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing, hauling, or off-road driving. Focus on body condition, suspension wear, and signs of uneven use, since those issues can be more important than cosmetic wear on a full-size pickup. If a listing has a strong equipment package, make sure every feature works as advertised before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes WT (Work Truck), Custom, LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country, with Trail Boss versions of the Custom and LT adding a lifted off-road suspension and rugged appearance. Base-trim trucks can feel sparse, while higher trims bring more comfort and polish.
• Powertrain: The truck is offered with multiple engines, including a turbocharged 2.7-liter 4-cylinder, a turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder diesel, a 4.3-liter V6, two versions of a 5.3-liter V8, and a 6.2-liter V8. Depending on configuration, it can tow up to 12,200 pounds and haul as much as 2,250 pounds.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes pedestrian braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a following-distance monitor, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, Rear Seat Reminder, and OnStar Safety & Security. The optional Safety Package adds front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring with lane-change alert, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: The Silverado uses Chevrolet Infotainment 3, with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and Teen Driver. An embedded navigation system is available only on LTZ and High Country, and a high-definition reversing camera is available as an upgrade.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test drive data notes that the truck did not match expected EPA fuel-economy results, and one test returned 13.8 mpg.

Which 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered in 6 trim levels: WT (Work Truck), Custom, LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country.

Here's the short version:

• WT (Work Truck): This is the most basic choice, so it makes sense if you want the Silverado’s core capability at the lowest entry point. It is the trim most likely to feel sparse, so it suits buyers who care more about utility than comfort or convenience.
• Custom: This trim adds a bit more everyday appeal while staying on the value side of the lineup. If you want a better balance of price and equipment, this is the one to watch closely.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it sits in the middle of the range and gives you a more complete truck without jumping too far upmarket. It is also the trim that can be paired with Trail Boss versions for a more rugged setup.
• RST: Choose this if you want a more style-focused Silverado with a sportier look. It is a good fit if appearance matters as much as capability.
• LTZ: This is the better pick if you want more comfort and convenience, and it is one of the trims that can get embedded navigation. It suits buyers who want a more upscale daily driver.
• High Country: This is the top-end choice for shoppers who want the most premium Silverado experience in this lineup. It also supports embedded navigation, making it the most fully equipped option here.

The Safety Package is a worthwhile add-on if you want parking sensors and extra driver-assistance coverage.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,716 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.25% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,020, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $26,020 sits slightly below last year's $28,672.

That price movement suggests the truck has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number. If you purchase near the current average or below it, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it comes time to sell. Strong condition, clean history, and desirable equipment should matter more because the market already reflects a softer pricing environment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 safe?

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 had not been subjected to crash-test evaluations when this review was published.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes pedestrian braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a following-distance monitor, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, Rear Seat Reminder, and OnStar Safety & Security. The optional Safety Package adds front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring with lane-change alert, and rear cross-traffic alert.

A key caveat is that crash-test results were not yet available, so you should weigh the truck’s active-safety equipment and inspect any used example carefully.

Should I buy a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.25% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned truck brings a more modern cabin, stronger structure, and improved safety equipment.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $28,100, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $26,020 average.
• It adds a new 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine and more available powertrains across trims.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2019 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you can stretch for the 2020, you get more powertrain variety and a few useful updates, but you’ll pay more for them.
