What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford F-150?

At 68.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used hard off-road or for towing. Focus on wear items, suspension condition, and signs of uneven use, since this model’s appeal often comes from capability that can also accelerate wear. If you’re comparing multiple trucks, condition should matter as much as trim and mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Raptor leans more toward function than form, with custom-designed 35-inch tires, a beefed-up Fox Racing suspension, and a torque-on-demand transfer case; the base setup is less lavish than higher-equipped trucks.
• Powertrain: The 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 makes 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque, and the 10-speed transmission helps keep highway revs low.
• Safety package: The Technology package adds lane-departure warning with lane keep, adaptive cruise with auto braking, and auto high beams and wipers.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 3 and Sync Connect, and it includes standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The Raptor returns 15 mpg city, 18 mpg highway, and 16 mpg combined.

Should I buy a 2017 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.36% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings back the Raptor with a new platform, a 450-hp twin-turbo V6, and major suspension and chassis upgrades.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $18,695, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $21,196 average.
• It leans hard into luxury while still feeling like a capable pickup.
