What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Chevrolet Colorado?

At 65.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing, off-roading, or heavy work. Focus on overall condition, signs of body repair, and how well the cabin and mechanicals have held up. Because this model year leans into simplicity and capability, a clean, well-kept example matters more than flashy equipment.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Colorado lineup spans everything from a bare-bones basic extended cab with rear-wheel drive and a 4-cylinder engine to a loaded ZR2 crew cab with 4-wheel drive and the rugged Bison Package. The cabin emphasizes practicality over style, and the Trail Runner Special Edition adds a block-letter CHEVROLET grille, skid plates, and rocker panel protection.
• Powertrain: You can get a 200-horsepower, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, a 3.6-liter V6 with 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque, or a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel 4-cylinder with 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The diesel is the towing standout, while the V6 is the more common upgrade.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a reversing camera and Teen Driver monitoring system, and crew cab versions also get a rear-seat reminder. Only the Colorado LT can be optioned with forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning.
• Infotainment: The Colorado uses Chevrolet Infotainment 3 with a 7- or 8-inch display, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice recognition. It also supports OnStar services, and available upgrades include navigation, a Bose premium sound system, and a wireless phone-charging pad.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test drive notes an EPA rating of 19 mpg for the test vehicle, and the diesel engine is tied to the truck’s strongest towing setup.

Which 2019 Chevrolet Colorado trim should I buy?

The 2019 Chevrolet Colorado is offered in 6 trim levels: Base, LT, Z71, ZR2, Trail Runner Special Edition, and ZR2 Bison.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the simplest way into the Colorado, and it suits you if you want the most basic, work-focused setup without extra frills.
• LT: This is the best-value trim if you want the most balanced mix of everyday usability and available safety tech, since it can be optioned with forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning.
• Z71: This trim adds off-road suspension tuning and a more purposeful look, and it works well if you want a truck that feels more capable without going all the way to the top off-road models.
• ZR2: This is the one to choose if you want the Colorado’s most serious off-road character, since the expert notes say to get the ZR2 if you expect to tackle serious trails.
• Trail Runner Special Edition: This is a style-and-protection package with skid plates and rocker panel protection, so it makes sense if you want a tougher-looking truck with some added hardware.
• ZR2 Bison: This is the most extreme version in the lineup, aimed at buyers who want the most rugged off-road setup.

Only the Colorado LT can be optioned with forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning systems.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Chevrolet Colorado?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, which gives you room to shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,364 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.63% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,478, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado's resale value?

The current average of $21,478 sits slightly below last year's $23,506.

That price movement suggests the Colorado has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and later resell from a lower entry point. For a future seller, the key advantage is that the truck still has a clear audience: buyers who want a simple, capable midsize pickup with strong owner satisfaction. A well-kept example should be easier to market than one with accident history or visible wear.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado safe?

The Chevrolet Colorado was awarded a Marginal score for front passenger safety in a small overlap, frontal-impact collision by IIHS, and it does not come close to earning a Top Safety Pick rating. In federal government crash testing, it earns four-star ratings overall, with three-star rollover resistance.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera and Teen Driver monitoring, and crew cab versions also get a rear-seat reminder. Only the LT can be optioned with forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning. If you want automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, or lane-keeping assist, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

Should I buy a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.63% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 stands out for its available diesel engine, off-road-tuned ZR2 trim, and simple, sensibly configured approach.

The bottom line: If you want a straightforward midsize truck with strong owner satisfaction and a market that gives you room to shop, the 2019 Colorado is worth considering. If you’re price-sensitive, focus on clean, well-maintained listings and use the softer pricing trend to your advantage; if you want a more modern-feeling interior or more advanced safety tech, you may want to compare it with newer alternatives.
