Is the 2018 Subaru Legacy a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Subaru Legacy earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its excellent safety features, comfortable ride, and spacious interior, and they also highlight its great fuel economy and reliability. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a midsize sedan that emphasizes comfort, confidence in bad weather, and everyday usability. With 28.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Subaru Legacy reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to reliability, with drivers specifically calling out the car’s reliability alongside its comfort and fuel economy. That kind of praise matters if you want a used sedan you can count on for regular commuting and year-round use. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about the condition of the individual car you choose.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Subaru Legacy?

At 55% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially for signs of uneven wear, repair quality, and any issues that could affect comfort or safety. Because this model is often chosen for its all-weather confidence and daily usability, you should focus on overall condition rather than just mileage or price.

• Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

If you find a listing below $14,019, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Subaru Legacy's resale value?

The current average of $14,217 sits slightly below last year's $14,819.

That price movement suggests the model has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation. Demand should remain supported by the Legacy’s practical appeal, especially for shoppers who value comfort, safety, and standard all-wheel drive.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2018 if you want a well-liked Legacy with strong owner satisfaction and a softer price than last year. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years to see whether a lower entry price outweighs the 2018’s current market balance of value and availability.
